    Union HRD Ministry to launch which programme for student tracking system – ASMITA

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has decided to launch ASMITA, which is a student tracking system programme. 

    ASMITA is acronym for All School Monitoring Individual Tracing Analysis and shall be launched under SAY, which is known to be Shala Asmita Yojana.

    Do You Know – 

    • SAY has a goal to track the educational journey of school students from Class I to Class XII across the 15 lakhs private and government schools in the country. 

    • An online database, ASMITA will carry information of student attendance and enrolment, learning outcomes, mid-day meal service and infrastructural facilities among others.

    Union Cabinet approved - National Capital Goods Policy 2016

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 25 May 2016 The Union Cabinet approved the National Capital Goods Policy 2016. 

    However, this is first ever policy for Capital Goods sector which aims and have  a clear objective of increasing production of capital goods from 2.3 lakh crore rupees in 2014-15 to 7.5 lakh crore rupees in 2025.

    It also aims to raise direct and indirect employment from the current 8.4 million to 30 million by 2025.

    United Nations World Humanitarian Summit concluded in – Istanbul

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 24 May 2016 The United Nations World Humanitarian Summit concluded in Istanbul, Turkey. 

    By the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) the summit was organised.

    On 23 May 2016, more than 50 heads of state and government attended the summit. However, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon voiced his disappointment at the absence of world leaders from G7 countries.

    If we talk about the World Humanitarian Summit’s main achievement then it was the Grand Bargain, which is the name for a set of 51 commitments to reform humanitarian financing and aims to make emergency aid finance more efficient and effective.

    Know About World Humanitarian Summit

    • On May 23 and 24, 2016 The United Nations World Humanitarian Summit, which is also known as WHS, was held in Istanbul, Turkey.

    • This Summit is an initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon and is being organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA).

    India, World Bank ink US$ 100 million loan agreement for which state Urban Water Supply Modernization – Karnataka

    Among Important National Current Affairs, India and World Bank have signed the Loan and Project Agreements for World Bank (IBRD) assistance of US 100 million dollars for Karnataka Urban Water Supply Modernization project. 

    Objective of the project includes – 

    • Provide city-wide access to a continuous piped water supply in the eligible cities in Karnataka. 

    • Strengthen the service delivery arrangements at the city level. KUIDFC is the nodal implementing agency for the project. The project has four broad components -

    (i) Capital Investment Program (ii) Technical Assistance for Sector Development (iii) Institution Building and (iv) Project Management. 

    Light and heavy diesel vehicles over 10 years in six major cities of Kerala were banned by – NGT

    Among Important National Current Affairs, NGT which is known as The National Green Tribunal, Circuit Bench of Kochi has banned light and heavy diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old in six major cities of Kerala. 

    These six major cities include - Thiruvananthapuram (state capital), Kochi (commercial capital), Kollam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur. In this regard order was given by the NGT Circuit Bench comprising NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar and expert member Bikram Singh Sajwan. 

    A Call to Mercy: Hearts to Love, Hands to Serve by - Mother Teresa

    On 25 May 2016, the book titled A Call to Mercy: Hearts to Love, Hands to Serve was in news. The book is a collection of previously unreleased writings by Mother Teresa.

    In the book of Mother Teresa, it was written how we can show mercy and compassion in our day-to-day lives.

    By the Rev. Brian Kolodiejchuk, who has led the case for Mother Teresa’s sainthood, the book was compiled.

    The book is all set to be released in August 2016 weeks before the late Nobel Peace Prize winner is to be canonized.
