    Who has won the Hero Hockey India League 2015 - Ranchi Rays

    On 23rd February 2015, Ranchi Rays won the Hero Hockey India League 2015 (HHIL) by defeating Jaypee Punjab Warriors. The HHIL 2015 was started on 22 January 2015 and ended on 22 February 2015 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. This is the third season of the professional field hockey tournament, Hockey India League. Ranchi Rays was awarded with 2.50 crore rupees, finishing in the second position Jaypee Punjab Warriors were awarded 1.25crore rupees, while Delhi Waveriders got 75 lakh rupees for securing third position. Hero Goal of the Match Award was received by Barry Middleton of Ranchi Rays. Tyler Lovell of Ranchi Rays was awrded as the Man of the Match.

    Where did the 3rd Tortoise Festival organised - Hajong Lake in Assam

    On 21st February 2015, 3rd Tortoise Festival was organised at Hajong Lake in Dima Hasao district of Assam to create awareness among people on the endangered tortoise species by Environment and Forest Department of Dima Hasao. The festival showed various activities like presentation, discussions and others aimed at protection of the species.

    About Hajong Lake

    • The lake is situated in the Langting Mupa forest reserve at a distance of around 300kilometres from Guwahati and is a unique tortoise habitat.
    • In Assam Hajong lake is the only natural tortoise home.
    • It is popularly known as the tortoise lake and is a habitat of few varieties of Hill Terrapins (a rare species).
    • Currently, around 400 to 500 tortoises are dwelling in the Hajong Lake.

    Which bill has been passed by Rajya Sabha - Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders Amendment Bill, 2014

    On 24th February 2015, Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders Amendment Bill, 2014 with one accord by a voice vote. The bill looks to alter the list of Scheduled Castes in one Union Territory- Dadra and Nagar Haveli and three states- Haryana, Karnataka and Odisha.

    Provisions of the bill

    • It recompense the Constitution (Dadra and Nagar Haveli) Scheduled Castes Order, 1962 and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950.
    • It adds new communities to the list of Scheduled Castes in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Haryana, Karnataka and Odisha.
    • It amends the name Uttaranchal to Uttarakhand in this list.
    • Following communities are added to the list of Scheduled Castes:
      • Haryana: Kabirpanthi Julaha
      • Karnataka: Od, Odde, Vaddar, Waddar, Voddar, Woddar, Bovi (Non Besta), Kalluvaddar, and Mannuvaddar
      • Odisha: Rajak, Adhuria Domb, Khatia, Nalua Kela, Sabakhia Kela, Matia Kela, Sapua Kela, Gaudia Kela, Khadal, Khodal, Betra Rajaka and Adhuria Dom.
      • Dadra and Nagar Haveli: Rohit

    Which state's budget had been presented by its CM on 24th February - Uttar Pradesh

    On 24th February 2015, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav presented the State Budget 2015-16 of Rs.302687 crore. In the budget, UP government has given main significance on power, infrastructure development, education, health, roads and agriculture. The budget size of 2015-16 is 10.2% more than the budget of 2014-15. Few facts of Uttar Pradesh Budget 2015-16 are as follows :

    • On the basis of 2013-14 prognosis, the growth rate of the state is expected to be 5% , more than the national growth of 4.7%.
    • 51516 crore rupees have been reserved for bridges, roads, irrigation and development and strengthening schemes for power.
    • There is an allocation of 26231 crore rupees in the budget for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, OBC's, physically challenged and poor people of the general category.
    • For power upgradation and line maintenance in the state there is a allocation of 25764 crore rupees. Generation of 2100 megawatt electricity is aimed in annual budget 2015-16 of UP.
    • A sum of 854 crores rupees has been allocated to build state of the art cancer Institute at Lucknow and the medical teachers will now retire at the age of 65.
    • Year 2015-16 has been declared as the Year of the Farmer by Budget. In this regard, Budget states to develop 1000 Agri Junctions to promote agriculture as a good mean of livelihood. Youth will be given subsidy at a loan of 5 percent interest.
    • 100 crore rupees are allocated for linking villages to blocks, tehsil and district headquarters under the Lohia Grameen Parivahan Service.

    Who is appointed as Executive Director for Regions and Center Operations at FAA - Ravi Chaudhary

    On 24th February 2015, Indian-American Ravi Chaudhary was appointed as Executive Director for Regions and Centre Operations at Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Chaudhary will oversee aviation operations in nine different regions under this position. He will be responsible for executing a 288 million US dollars operating budget of FAA and will lead over 2100 Federal Employees in nine nationwide regions. Chaudhary will also be responsible for providing Department of Transportation and FAA-wide services in the areas of corporate outreach, facilities management, emergency readiness, operations, safety, policy, besides centralised support for the National Aerospace System.
