    Where was foundation stone laid for first 2G Ethanol Bio-refinery of India - Bathinda, Punjab

    Among National Current Affairs, On 25th December 2016, Foundation stone of First Second Generation (2G) Ethanol Bio-refinery was laid at Tarkhanwala, Bathinda in Punjab.

    Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimarat Kaur Badal was present at the moment along with Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and other ministers of Punjab.

    Approximately 600 crores will be invested in this and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) will set up this project.

    Scientists developed first biological pacemaker developed from - Human stem cells

    Scientists of McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine has developed first pacemaker cells from human stem cells. This is a big leap in medical field and with this they have advanced in creating a biological pacemaker.

    The scientists used a developmental-biology approach to ascertain a specific protocol for generating the pacemaker cells.

    The study stated that sinoatrial node cardiomyocytes derived from human pluripotent cells function as a biological pacemaker.

    Special stamp on freedom fighter Gaya Prasad Katiyar was released by - Union Government

    On 26th December 2016, A Special stamp on freedom fighter Gaya Prasad Katiyar was released by The Department of Posts under the Union Ministry of Communications.

    freedom fighter Gaya Prasad Katiyar was born in Jagadishpur, UP and joined Hindustan Socialist Republican Association in 1925. He wsa connected with Chandra Shekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh.

    Dinanath Bhargava passed away, he designed - National Emblem

    Designer of National Emblem, Dinanath Bhargava passed away on 24th December 2016. He was 89 years old.

    He sketched and illuminated the National Emblem and extracted its motto 'Satyameva Jayate'. He did a great research on it.

    He was born at Multai in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh in 1927. He was also a great and renowned painter, as he also won a gold medal for his paintings at Europe's World Art Tour in the 1950s.

    Name of former Prime Minister of Srilanka who passed away - Ratnasiri Wickremanayake

    On 27th December 2016, Former Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ratnasiri Wickremanayake passed away in Colombo. He was 83 years old.

    In 2005 he served a Prime Minister of Srilanka during the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government, also in 2000-2001 he held same position.

    Where was first Digi Dhan Mela held to promote cashless transactions - Gurugram

    On 26th December 2016, First Digi Dhan Mela was held in Gurugram, Haryana with an aim to promote cashless transactions. In this fair people were provided with information to how to use mobile phones and AADHAR for making payments online and were also made aware of Lucky Grahak Yojana.

    Lucky Grahak Yojana is a scheme as per which Government will give reward of Rs 1000 that will be given to 15000 lucky consumers for a period of 100 days. Also there will be weekly prizes of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 10000 and Rs 5000 for the people who do cashless transactions.
