    What is a scheme to boost healthcare facilities for pregnant women - Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

    Among Important National Current Affairs, in June 2016, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan which is also known as PMSMA, launched with an initiative of the Narendra Modi Government.

    The scheme main aim is to boosting the health care facilities for the pregnant women, especially the poor. 

    This scheme also seeks to protect pregnant ladies from infectious diseases.

    Under the scheme it includes – 

    • The pregnant ladies will be given full free health check-up and also required treatment for free on 9th of every month. 

    • Also this scheme will be applicable for pregnant women to avail in every government hospitals across India.

    Xerxes Sapur Desai dies; he was the founder of – Titan

    On 27 June 2016, the man who founded Titan Co Ltd, Xerxes Sapur Desai died at the age of 79, because of following a prolonged illness in Bengaluru. 

    In the late 80s, Desai played a major role in introducing India to its first quartz watch when he set up Titan Co. Ltd (part of Tata Sons), after enduring years of resistance from state-owned HMT Watches.

    CSIR launches India’s first anti diabetic ayurvedic drug - BGR -34

    CSIR, which is known as The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has launched BGR-34, an anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug which is designed for type 2 Diabetes mellitus. 

    The anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug BGR-34 has been also jointly developed by National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP). 

    Do You Know – 

    • BGR-34 controlled blood sugar and also limited the harmful effects and toxicity of other drugs. 

    • It also contains 34 identified active phyto-constitutes from herbal resources. It has been economically priced at 5 rupees per tablet as compared to latest DPP4 inhibitors globally.

    Payment and Settlement Systems in India published by - RBI

    On 23 June 2016, The Reserve Bank of India finally released the “Payment and Settlement Systems in India: Vision-2018”. 

    Main aim of the vision which reiterates is building a “less-cash” society by encouraging greater use of electronic payments by all sections.

    Whereas, its objective is to ensure that a robust payments infrastructure is established in the country to increase accessibility, availability, interoperability and security.

    Among Important International Current Affairs, in the fourth week of June 2016, Zubaida Bai who is an Indian social entrepreneur was named among the top 10 Local SDG Pioneers for 2016.

    However, the 2016 Local SDG Pioneers is a part of the United Nations Global Compact’s Making Global Goals Local Business campaign.

    The Local SDG Pioneers programme also seeks out individuals who are demonstrating how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can enable business to unlock economic, social and environmental gains for the world.
