    ISRO’s which seventh navigational satellite has been launched - IRNSS 1G

    On 28 April 2016, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched India’s seventh navigation satellite of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS 1G) into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO) on-board PSLV-C33.

    This satellite was launched from the First Launch Pad (FLP) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, which is situated 90 kms from Chennai.

    After this launch, India successfully joined the elite group of countries that have their own navigation system technology to cater to the mammoth navigational needs.

    Know About IRNSS 1G – 

    • It was the seventh & final of the Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) series of satellites after IRNSS-1A, IRNSS-1B, IRNSS-1C, IRNSS-1D, IRNSS-1E and IRNSS-1F. 

    • This system of satellites will provide navigational services to the Indian region. 

    Which player equals world record in recurve event at Archery World Cup - Deepika Kumari

    An Indian player Deepika Kumari has equalled the world record in Women’s Recurve event at the qualifying stage of Archery World Cup held in Shanghai, China.

    Deepika make the India feel proud by recording a score of 686 out of 720 to finish 1st in qualifiers and equal the world. 

    After this, she equalled the record set by South Korea’s Ki Boe Bae at the World University Games in Gwangju in 2015.

    Now,  Deepika has already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics scheduled to be held in August 2016 with her performance at the Copenhagen World Championships in 2015.

    Know About Deepika Kumari – 

    • An Indian athlete, Deepika Kumari is currently ranked World No. 7, and is a former world number one.

    • Deepika Kumari won a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women's individual recurve event. 

    • In the same competition, she also won a gold medal in the women's team recurve event along with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi.

    On 28 April 2016 which day is observed globally - World Day for Safety and Health at Work

    On 28 April 2016, The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was observed across the world.

    The main theme of this day is - Workplace Stress: a collective challenge.

    ILO which is known as The International Labour Organisation celebrates World Day for Safety and Health to raise awareness of safety in the workplace. Occurring annually since 2003, each year it focuses on a specific area and bases a campaign around the theme.

    Union Cabinet approved Investment enhancement by BPCL in - Bharat Oman Refineries Limited

    On 27 April 2016, The Union Cabinet approved to enhance investment by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Bharat Oman Refineries Limited (BORL).

    However,  the investment amount can be enhanced upto a maximum of 3000 crore rupees by way of subscription of convertible warrants giving right to convert it into equity shares to be issued by BORL.

    • BPCL which is known as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, is an Indian state-controlled oil and gas company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 

    • BPCL operates two large refineries of the country located at Mumbai and Kochi.

    • This Corporation has been ranked 280th in the Fortune Global 500 rankings of the world's biggest corporations for the year 2015.

    Who recalled as Sri Lanka's cricket chief selector – Sanath Jayasurya

    On 27 April 2016, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as chief selector of the Sri Lankan Cricket team.

    For the Sri Lankan Crickett Team, Jayasuriya is back as the chief selector for the team after a year when he stepped down from the role. 

    Before this, he has served as the chief selector from January 2013 to March 2015.

    Know About Sanath Jayasurya – 

    • Sanath Jayasurya, who is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, is renowned as one of the greatest One Day International players of all time, due to powerful striking and match winning all-round performances.

    • Jayasurya is also credited for having revolutionized One Day International cricket with his explosive batting with Romesh Kaluwitharana in 1996, which initiated the hard-hitting modern day batting strategy of all nations.

    Which country has successfully launched Kunpeng-1B Sounding Rocket - China

    On 27 April 2016, China has successfully launched the Kunpeng-1B sounding rocket from a launch pad in Danzhou City in the southern Chinese Hainan Province. 

    This Kunpeng-1B sounding rocket reached a maximum height of about 316 kilometres (196 miles), with the total flight time coming to 10 minutes.

    Do You Know – 

    • For the first time Kunpeng 1B’s arrow configuration of altitude control system and carbon fibre stretching rod has been used on a sounding rocket in China. It makes the detector more flexible and lightweight.

    • This Kunpeng-1B sounding rocket is expected to fulfil its mission of taking measurements in the upper atmosphere that will help with research of rocket sounding, high-speed flight and space tourism.

    Which Aayog launched urban management programme for capacity building of states and urban local bodies - NITI Aayog

    On 27 April 2016, NITI Aayog chaired by Vice Chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya launched the Urban Management Programme. 

    However, the state participation was at the level of Secretaries of Urban Development, Municipal Commissioners and other senior officials of State Government and parastatal bodies. About 150 participants were present in the event.

    • NITI Aayog, which is known as The National Institution for Transforming India Aayog is a Government of India policy think-tank established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to replace the Planning Commission.

    • The main aim of NITI Aayog's creation is to foster involvement and participation in the economic policy-making process by the State Governments of India.

    What is the name of the Kerala cartoonist who passed away recently - V T Thomas

    On 27 April 2016, Kerala cartoonist V T Thomas, who is known by his popular name Toms, passed away at the of 86, following a brief illness at in Kottayam, Kerela. He is survived by his wife Thresyakutty and children Boban, Molly, Rani, Peter, Bose, Princy.

    Toms was a legendary cartoonist who created the legendary cartoon characters Boban and Molly (Bobanum Moliyum).
