    PV Sindhu settled for silver after losing to top-ranked Tai Tzu Yi in - Asian Games 2018

    India's medal hunt on 10th Day at the 18th Asian Games started with two silvers from the men's and women's compound archery team.  In the women's team gold medal match, India lost to Korea by 228-231 settling for silver. After the men's compound team finals, though the match was tied at 229-229,
    the gold medal was bagged by Korea and India settled for silver.

    In the much-awaited women's singles gold medal match between PV Sindhu and Tai Tzu Yin, Sindhu settled for silver after she lost to Yin in straight sets. Other than the loss, Sindhu has become the first badminton player to win silver in Asian Games.
    India's medal tally now shows 45 medals including 8 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze with the results. 

    JNPT, Maharashtra, MP and Ministry of Railways sign MoU for Indore-Manmad Railway Line Project on - 28th August 2018

    The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, under the Ministry of Shipping signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 28th August 2018 with the Ministry of Railways, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to implement the 362 km Indore- Manmad New Railway Line Project.

    Important Highlights of the Project

    • The implementation of the project will be through the IPRCL (Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited) on Joint Venture SPV model.
    • A Joint Venture Company will be forming between the Ministry of Shipping or its nominated entity including JNPT with equity share of 55 percent; Maharashtra or its nominated entity; Madhya Pradesh or its nominated entity and others with equity share of 15 percent each.
    • JNPT will be the main promoter of the project.
    • The project is estimated to result in cumulative net economic benefits of Rs 15000 crore in the initial ten years of operations.
    • It will be helping to generate employment, pollution reduction, fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs.
    • The project is expected to be constructed within six years.

    Manjit Singh wins gold in men's 800m, Jinson Johnson bags silver - Asian Games 2018

    India's gold account opened on 10th Day of the 18th Asian Games with Manjit Singh, who bagged first in the men's 800m final with a timing of 1.46.15. Jinson Johnson followed close behind with a timing of 1.46.35 in order to finish at the second place.

    Pinky Balhara also won a silver in the women's 52 kg final after she lost to Uzbekistan's Gulnor Sulaymanova by 10-0.
    It was India's second medal in Kurash. India's first medal in the event came through Malaprabha Yallapa Jadav, who picked up bronze after following her semifinal defeat.

    Earlier, in the much-awaited women's singles gold medal match between Tai Tzu Yin and PV Sindhu, Sindhu had to settle for silver after  But she lost to Yin in straight sets.Sindhu became the first badminton player to win silver in Asian Games, despite the loss from her.

    National Sports Day 2018 celebrated in India on - 29th August 2018

    India observed the National Sports Day 2018 on 29th August 2018 to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand who was born on 29th August, 1905.
    Every year on this day, the President of India confers National sports and adventure awards including Arjuna and Khel Ratna to celebrate the achievements of exceptional  athletes in the country. The date has been postponed to 25th September 2018 in the wake of ongoing Asian Games 2018 by this year.

    Indian athletes are participating in the Asian Games 2018 currently, taking place at Jakarta, Indonesia. The Asian Games are also known as Asiad, is  a continental multi-sport event held every 4 years between athletes from all over Asia.

    Gaganyaan Mission to put Indians in space before 2022 unveiled by - ISRO

    The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) unveiled the details of the Gaganyaan mission for manned space flight before 2022 on 28th August 2018.

    The Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this mission during 72nd Independence Day speech. He announced that this manned space mission will be taking Indian astronauts to space on board 'Gaganyaan' by 2022.

    ISRO Chairman, Dr K. Sivan said that the program will be making India the fourth nation in the world to launch a Human Spaceflight Mission.  Only the USA, Russia and China have launched human spaceflight missions so far.
