    A.K. Mittal appointed as new Chairman of Railway Board

    On 31st December 2014, Mr. A K Mittal was appointed as new Chairman of Railway Board, he succeeded Mr. Arunendra Kumar who got retired from the post. Earlier he has served as General Manager of South Western Railway-SWR (Hubli) and was also serving as additional charge of General Manager, South Central Railway- SCR (Secunderabad).

    ISRO chief Koppillil Radhakrishnan retired

    On 31st December 2014, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Mr. Koppillil Radhakrishnan retired. He was serving at this post since October 2009.

    It is important to mention here that low-cost (74 million US dollars) Mangalayaan milestone was achieved during his tenure. 

    He was honoured with Padma Bhusan in 2014 by Govt. He is an accomplished vocalist (Carnatic music) and Kathakali artist too.

    M Sathiyavathy named as Director General of Civil Aviation

    On 31st December 2014, M Sathiyavathy was appointed as Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) by Union Government. M Sathiyavathy is IAS officer of 1982 batch. With this appointment she became first women DGCA, she will be serving at this post till January 2017. 

    Before her appointment Prabhat Kumar (1985-batch IAS officer) was serving at this post. On the time of appointment M Sathiyavathy was serving as additional secretary and financial advisor in the aviation ministry.

    Beji Caid Essebsi sworned in as President of Tunisia

    Among the International Current Affairs, On 31st December 2014, Beji Caid Essebsi sworned in as the President of Tunisia. With this appointment he became first freely elected leader of Tunisia since it gained independence from France (In 1956).

    He defeated incumbent Moncef Marzouki by gaining 55.68 percent votes.

    Himmat - A women safety mobile app launched by Govt

    On 1st January 2015, Integrated women safety mobile app called Himmat was launched by Union Government. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched this app in Delhi, which is aimed to help women to send a distress call to Police Control Room and their relatives in case of any emergency.
