Nation pays homage to whom on his 147th birth anniversary - Mahatma Gandhi

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 2nd October 2016 India paid homage to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 147th birth anniversary. 

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi preached the principles of tolerance and non-violence.

However, President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries visited Rajghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi to offer tributes.

Also here on this occasion, an all religion prayer meeting was organised at Rajghat and several other events including Swachh and Samarth Bharat were organised across the country.

International Day of what observed across the world - Non-Violence

Among Important International Current Affairs, on 2nd October 2016 The International Day of Non-Violence was observed across the world, the date that marks the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. 

However, this day is referred in India as Gandhi Jayanti.
