Madhukar Gupta Committee on border protection submits report to – MHA

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 29th August 2016 The Madhukar Gupta Committee on border protection submitted its report to the Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

However, this panel has made a detailed research and study on threat perception, field visits and also made a detailed recommendations pertaining to strengthening of border protection on Indo-Pakistan Border. 

It also studied security and threats at Border States of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu.

However, the Committee is headed by former Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who was appointed on 5th April 2016 for strengthening border protection and addressing the issue of gaps and vulnerability in border fencing along Indo-Pakistan Border.

2016 Belgian Grand Prix won by - Nico Rosberg

Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 28th August 2016 Nico Rosberg of Mercedes won the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix of Formula One (F1).

However, it was Rosberg’s first ever win at Spa and sixth of the 2016 season. 

With this win, Rosberg has narrowed the gap between Hamilton and him to nine points in the championship standings.

Name the author who gets Saraswati Samman for year 2015 - Padma Sachdev

Among Important National Current Affairs, well-renowned author Padma Sachdev has been awarded with the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2015 for her autobiography 'Chitt-Chete' which is written in language Dogri. 

On 29th August 2016, Padma Sachdev was felicitated by Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in New Delhi.

India, US signed – LEMOA

On 29th August 2016 the two countries India and the United States have together finally signed Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA). 

However, the logistics agreement will enable the forces of the two nations to use each other’s bases for repair and replenishment of supplies.

Here, this agreement was signed in Pentagon during Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to the US. Also the two leaders had agreed on the memorandum in principle when they last met in India in April 2016.

On 29 August which day is celebrated - National Sports Day

Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 29th August 2016 National Sports Day was observed across India. 

This day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand who was born on 29 August, 1905.

However, on this occasion President Pranab Mukherjee conferred National Sports and adventure awards on sports person at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

Which two countries signed four agreements to boost bilateral cooperation - India, Myanmar

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 28th August 2016 India and Myanmar have signed together four Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with an aim to enhance cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries.

However, the pacts were inked only after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting President of Myanmar U Htin Kyaw in New Delhi. 

From 27th August to 30th August 2016, President Kyaw was on a four day visit to India.
