    South Western Command conducts Exercise Vijay Prahar in - Rajasthan

    South Western Command of Indian Army is directing ‘Vijay Prahar’ workout in Mahajan area close to Suratgarh, Rajasthan. In this workout, more than 20,000 troops are taking part with fighting apparatus for couple of weeks fine-tune joint efforts with the Indian Air Force.
    Key Points

    • The month duration workout is focused to orchestrate wide spectrum of threats which are deliberate to be undertaken through high tempo joint air and land procedure.
    • It consists of hundreds of aircrafts, thousands of war-tanks and weaponry pieces supported by real time intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and logistic sustenance.

    • The South Western Command of the Indian Army was founded in April 2005 and became completely operational on 15th August 2005. The command’s operational components include I Corps, formerly under Central Command, and X Corps transferred from Western Command.

    Hockey India appoints Harendra Singh as men’s coach, Marijne to return to women's side on - 1st May 2018

    Hockey India designated Harendra Singh as the chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, on May 1st, 2018, replacing Sjoerd Marijne who will come back to his accountability as coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.
    Under Singh’s leadership, the Indian women's team finished an impressive 4th at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The Indian men’s hockey team, however, had an inacceptable run at Commonwealth Games 2018, as the team lost to England in the bronze medal playoff match, ending without a medal for the 1st
    time since Commonwealth Games 2006.
    More about Harendra Singh

    • Harendra Singh characterized India during 1985 to 1991, playing 43 games before retiring at the age of 26.
    • He joined to coaching in 1998 and has trained approximately 400 matches till date.
    • Harendra Singh trained the Indian men's hockey side earlier from 2009-2011. He, however, resigned from the post following the poor performance of the team during the Azlan Shah Cup in 2011 where they ended 6th.
    • In 2014, he was designated as the coach of Indian junior men's hockey team and had commanded the team to clinch the Junior World Cup in 2016.
    • The junior team had also secured gold in the Asia Cup, the Eurasia Cup and the 4-Nation contest prior to the World Cup.
    • Overall, under Singh’s leadership, the senior and junior men’s team collected 8 gold medals, 5 silvers and 9 bronzes in various international games.
    • In 2012, Singh was commemorated with the highest sports coaching honour in the nation, Dronacharya Award.
    • In November 2017, he was appointed as the chief coach of the women's hockey team after Marijne was named as the men's coach, replacing the sacked Roelant Oltmans.
    • Under his training, the women’s side that ended 12th at the Rio Olympics secured its 9th Asia Cup title in Japan, in 2017.

    9th India-Japan Energy Dialogue held in - New Delhi

    President to preside over PM-headed panel on - Gandhi 150th birth Anniversary

    President Ram Nath Kovind will control over 1st meeting of National Committee for Commemoration of 150th Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. The committee is led by PM Narendra Modi and has 114
    memberships on board including Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, former PMs and Chief Justice of
    India, Lok Sabha Speaker, members of union cabinet, political party leaders, CMs, Gandhians, spiritual
    gurus and social workers among others.

    • The 114 members committee will deliberate policies, plans and preparatory activities for memorial of birthday.
    • Its references will be considered for implementation by government.
