    Former PM Manmohan Singh chosen for top national award by Japan

    On 3rd November 2014, Former Prime Minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh was chosen for Japan's top national award 'The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers' for his contribution to India-Japan ties. After this he became first PM of India to receive this honour. This is a high level national order which is given to recognize the distinguished contribution. 

    After this Former PM Manmohan Singh said that he is humbled by the love and affection showered upon me by the people and government of Japan.

    Senior IPS officer Ashok Kumar appointed as DGP of Tamil Nadu

    On 3rd November 2014, Senior IPS officer Ashok Kumar was named as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu. He will be succeeding K Ramanujam for this post. IPS officer Ashok Kumar is of 1982 batch and presently holding the charge of Director General of Police (DGP) intelligence.

    New World Trade Centre opened after a span of 13 years after 9/11 attacks

    Among Important International Current Affairs, On 3rd November 2014, World Trade Center of the United States reopened its new tower for business after thirteen years of 9/11 terrorist attack. 

    This is now the tallest building in US and it took total of eight years to build it. 

    Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns this 104 story building. The publishing giant Conde Nast became the first commercial tenant in America's tallest building.

    Mudgal Committee submitted final report to Supreme Court on IPL Spot Fixing

    On 3rd November 2014, Much awaited report on IPL Spot fixing was submitted to Supreme Court of India by Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee. This report was in a sealed envelope which was submitted to the two-judge SC bench of Justice TS Thakur and Ibrahim Kalifulla. 

    Important to mention here that Mudgal committee was appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the fixing and betting scandal in the cricket Indian Premier League. Apart from Justice Mukul Mudgal, Additional Solicitor General L Nageswara Rao, advocate Nilay Datta, Deputy DG (Narcotics Control Bureau) BB Mishra and former India captain Sourav Ganguly are also the members of this committee.

    S&P downgrades Indian Overseas Bank to speculative grade

    Among the Banking Current Affairs, On 3rd November 2014, Global rating agency Standard & Poor lowered credit rating of state-owned Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) to speculative grade. Bank's risk position was revised from moderate to weak. 

    The move will affect the credit cost of the IOB. IOB's credit costs will remain high because of the bank's weak asset quality. Though rating agency can improve rating if Bank's risk management. Now the bank's rating will remain weak for next 12 months.

    IAS Officer Hasmukh Adhia appointed as Secretary, Department of Financial Services

    Among the important Appointments, On 3rd November 2014, 1981-batch IAS officer of Gujarat Cadre Mr. Hasmukh Adhia was appointed as the Union Financial Services Secretary. He was serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Finance Department of Gujarat government. 

    He succeeded 1980-batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer GS Sandhu who was made the Chairman of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention.

    India and Sri Lanka started joint military exercise Mithra Shakti

    On 3rd November 2014, The special forces of Indian and Sri Lankan armies started three-week long mock war drill at the Uva-Kudaoya Commando Regiment Training School near Colombo. This exercise will be till 23rd November 2014 which is a part of training of counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency in the island nation. 

    This joint exercise has been named Mithra Shakti Exercise.
