    Japan’s Yoshinori Ohsumi wins 2016 Nobel Prize in – Medicine

    Among Important International Current Affairs, Yoshinori Ohsumi at the age of 71 of Japan has won the 2016 Nobel Prize for physiology or Medicine for his pioneering work on autophagy.

    However, now he becomes the 23rd Japanese national to win a Nobel prize and overall the sixth Japanese medicine Nobel laureate. 

    It was the year 1974, when Mr. Ohsumi had received a PhD from the University of Tokyo.

    Presently, Ohsumi is a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT).

    Urban areas of which two states declared open defecation free - Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Urban Development Ministry has finally declared urban areas of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh open defecation free (ODF). 

    However, these are the first two states to become open defecation free in urban areas. More than this, it was announced on the occasion of second anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission and 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi observed on October 2, 2016.

    Name the wildlife film-maker, who conferred knighthood by France - Prajna Chowta

    Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, Film-maker and elephant researcher Prajna Chowta who was recently appointed Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite (Knight in the National Order of Merit) by the French Government.

    However, the official ceremony is expected to be held later in 2016, in Bengaluru.

    Also the appointment of Chowta by the President of the French Republic comes in recognition of a life devoted to caring for wild Asian elephants.

    Who has resigned as CEO of Prasar Bharati Corporation - Jawhar Sircar

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 3rd October 2016 Jawhar Sircar resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati Corporation. 

    However, his resignation came four months ahead of the end of his tenure which was about to end in February 2017. 

    According to the rules of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, chairman or any other member may resign from the office by giving notice thereof in writing to the President of India and on such resignation being accepted; the chairman or other member shall be deemed to have vacated his office

    World Space Week observed with theme - Remote Sensing: Enabling our Future

    However, this year's theme celebrates Earth Observation from Space for the betterment of the human race.

    Which state becomes first state to implement DBT in Kerosene – Jharkhand

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to implement Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in Kerosene Scheme. 

    However, the scheme is being implemented in four identified districts of the state from 1st of October 2017. These districts includes - Chatra, Hazaribagh, Khunti and Jamtara.
