    World Asthma Day is observed on - 5th May

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 5th May 2015, World Asthma Day was observed worldwide with the theme "You Can Control Your Asthma" and sub-theme "It’s Time to Control Asthma".

    On the first Tuesday of May, World Asthma Day is observed every year. The day was initiated in 1998. Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) organize the day annually to spread asthma awareness and care around the world.

    Which Oscar-winning author has passed away - Michael Blake

    On 3rd May 2015, Michael Blake, the Oscar-winning author passed away at the age of 69. He got famous by one of his novels named Dances With Wolves.

    Over 3.5 millions of copies were sold, translated into 15 languages, and later Kevin Costner directed it into a film. 7 Oscars were acquired by the film including Best Picture and Best Screenplay for Blake.

    He has also won the Golden Globes and WGA Award for the novel. Michael Blake had also written several other novels that promoted many causes, such as the disappearing of wild horses in the West, Native American history and literacy.

    Qatar and France inked agreement to - supply 24 Rafale fighter jets

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 4th May 2015, a 7.02 billion US dollars agreement has been signed for the supply of 24 Dassault Aviation-built Rafale fighter jets between France and Qatar. After agreement with India and Egypt to sell Rafale Fighter jets, this is the 3rd contract.

    Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Francois Hollande signed the agreement which also includes training of 100 technicians by the French military and 36 Qatari pilots along with the training of a number of Qatari intelligence officers.

    The deal is expected to give 21 billion euro in 2015 to French economy, which is a significant boost for a struggling French economy.

    119th Constitutional Amendment Bill cleared by - Union Cabinet

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 5th May 2015, The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the 119th Constitutional Amendment Bill on Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) between Bangladesh and India.

    According to the the land boundary agreement, India and Bangladesh will interchange several terrain. The bill encompasses the region in Assam in addition to region of West Bengal, Meghalaya and Tripura.

    Along with the authorization by the Parliament it would also require authorization of at least 50% of the state legislatures to come into action.

    Which Chinese social media platform has been joined by PM Narendra Mod - Weibo

    On 4th May 2015, Chinese social media platform named Weibo was joined by Prime Minister. It is mentioned as Twitter of China and the main microblogging service of China.

    On 14 May 2015, Modi will start off his three-nation tour to the East to South Korea, Mongolia and China. It is similar to Twitter and Facebook.

    It is one of the most accepted sites in China, in use by well over 30% of Internet users, with a market perception similar to the United States' Twitter.

    Name the weapon inducted into Indian Army - Akash Weapon System (AWS)

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 5th May 2015, The first regiment of the indigenously developed Surface-to-Air missile Akash Weapon System (AWS) was inducted into the Indian Army.

    It is a volume of the orders worth about 19000 crore rupees placed by the Army.

    Features of Akash Weapon System (AWS)

    • AWS contains six launchers with every launcher having three missiles in every regiment.
    • It comprise of revolutionary control systems and radars to guide the missile.
    • Length of every missile is 5.78 meters with a weught of 720 kg.
    • It can captivate multiple targets simultaneously including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in addition to fighter planes and helicopters.
    • Large operational range from a low altitude of 30 metres to a maximum of up to 20 km.
    • At 96% indigenisation, it shows a major capability development for a crucial weapon system.
    • It is aimed for high mobility and can be quickly moved to any operational theatres based on necessity.
