    India sets Guinness World Record by cooking 918 kg khichdi on - 4th November 2017

    India on 4th November 2017 attained a Guinness World Record by cooking 918 Kgs of Khichdi at the India Gate Lawns, New Delhi during the current World Food India event.
    The world-record ceremony was attended by Union Minister Food Processing Harsimart Kaur Badal and Patanjali Group founder Baba Ramdev. The Khichdi was served among foreign ambassadors and other dignitaries who were present there at the world-record event.
    Key Highlights

    • The Khichdi was cooked by a team of 50 helpers using a 1000 litres stainless steel giant container (kadhai) in an order to promote Indian ingredients and cuisine.
    • The team was headed by Chef Sanjeev Kapoor who is the wekk known brand ambassador of The Great Indian Food Street and NGO Akshaya Patra.
    • Imtiaz Qureshi, Rakesh Sethi, Ranveer Brar, Sudhir Sibal, Akshay Nayyar and Satish Gowda  were other chefs who helped in  the Khichdi preparation.
    • This huge amount Khichdi was cooked by using various Indian ingredients such as rice, moong beans, amaranth, jowar, bajra and Indian spices to make it protein-rich and nutritious.
    • A giant kadhai of the capacity of 1000 litres and 7 feet in diameter was specially designed for this event.It took around three months for planning and multiple chances to cook over 800 kgs of Khichdi in single go.

    Indian women's hockey team lifts Hockey Asia Cup after 13 years on - 5th November 2017

    Indian women's hockey team on 5th November 2017 defeated China by 5-4 to won the Asia Cup 2017 title. The important final was played at Kakamigahara city in southern Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
    With this victory, Team India has secured a place for itself at the Hockey World Cup 2018. This is the 2nd time that India has secured the top spot in the history of the tournament. The earlier was 13 years ago in the year 2004.

    Important Highlights

    • Both the teams were at 1-1 till full time.
    • Though India took the lead with Navjot Kaur scoring in the 25th minute of the play, however, China’s Tiantian Luo converted a penalty corner into a goal to equalize the scoreboard in the 47th minute.
    • In the penalty shot Rani scored twice while Monica, Lilima Minz and Navjot scored single goal each.
    • While Monika Malik was awarded with the Woman of the Match, Savita Punia was declared Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
    • Savita completed a great save in sudden death pattern to ensure India the 5-4 score in the penalty shootout.
    • The team that came 3rd in the tournament was South Korea, by defeating host country Japan 1-0 prior on the same day.
    • The Indian women’s team’s victory in the Asia Cup follows the men's side victory last month in aDhaka, Bangladesh.

    Veteran actor Mohan Joshi honoured with Vishnudas Bhave award on - 5th November 2017

    Famous Indian film and television actor Mohan Joshi was honored with the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave award for his contribution to the theatre on 5th November 2017. The award was given to Joshi by veteran actor Jayant Sawarkar. The award is presented in memory of Vishnudas Bhave, the founder of Marathi theatre. Award comprises a trophy, a citation and a cash prize worth Rs 25,000.
    Apart from plays, Joshi has acted in various Marathi and Hindi films including Major Saab, Baghban, Gangaajal, Garv: Pride and Honour and currently Yeh Hai India.
    More about Mohan Joshi

    • Born in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Joshi started his theatre career in Pune.
    • He was noticed via play Kuryat Sada Tingalam, which was performed for more than 1000 times.
      Joshi has worked in various cinema including Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Kannada.
    • He won a National film award for his 1999 Marathi film Gharabaher as specially mentioned at the 47th National Film Awards.
    • He entered into the Hindi television industry through the show Jamuniya in 2010.

    Main arch on world's highest bridge on Chenab launched by - Railway

    The Indian Railways has begun the main arch of the world's highest bridge on the River Chenab in J&K Reasi district. It will support direct connectivity to the Kashmir Valley. The iconic flyover of Jammu and Kashmir will be arising 359 meters above the bed of the Chenab and will be 30 meters higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
    The starting of the main arch is a exceptionable effort because it requires carrying heavy portions from both the ends of the bridge - Kauri end and Bakkal and involves the world’s longest cable crane arrangement.
    International and National advisers have been engaged during various stages of the project, including detailed seismic studies, geo-physical studies and slope stability studies.

    • The Bridge is 1300 meter long which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1250 crore.
    • The bridge enhance the critical link in the 111-km stretch between Banihal and Katra which is part of the Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla segment of the Kashmir Railway project.
    • The bridge is part of the flagship Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project and being built on River Chenab on the Katra-Banihal segment.

     Multi-radio telescope project collaboration between India and - South Africa

    India and South would together be expanding their efforts in locating the evolution of galaxies thereby, further strengthening their 20 years of strategic collaboration.
    India would be participating in the multi-national Square Kilometer Array- a large multi radio telescope project focused to be built in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, where the view of the Milky Way Galaxy is best with least radio interference. The telescope would be the world’s most substantial radio telescope and it would have a total collecting area of approx 1 square kilometer.

    More about SKA-

    • It will be a premier radio astronomy service with stations located in Africa and Australia.
    • Unlike optical telescopes that can be obstructed by cloud or poor weather situations on Earth, radio telescopes, working with signals at a stronger wavelength, would work even in cloudy conditions.
    • The telescopes are capable of detecting invisible gasses and can disclose areas of space that may be occupied by cosmic dust.
    • MeerKAT which is a 64-dish precursor radio telescope to SKA, is recently being built in South Africa.
    • The arsenal  of the telescope  has  64 receptors which will finally be integrated into the SKA.
    • With full-functional, the SKA is expected to have a total of at least 3,000 dishes distributed across per square kilometer area across two continents.
    • The telescope is believed to be fully functional in the 2020s.
    • The project will include a number of key science programmers that further will look for India and South Africa partnerships. Some of the crucial science programmers are mapping hydrogen in the universe and detecting the distribution of galaxies and matter in the universe.

    Indian Army launches Joint Training Node in Shillong on - 4th November 2017

    The Indian Army on 4th November 2017 released an independent and fully-integrated Joint Training Node at Umroi cantonment in Shilllong, Meghalaya. The Training Node is focused at hosting foreign armies during joint exercises.

    Key Highlights

    • The Joint Training Node is the 1st of its kind in eastern command and is special from other joint training centers located in Belgaum, Varangte and Bakloh.
    • The main idea behind its creation is to provide the best possible training environment for visiting armies.
    • The centre has been elaborated at par with training centers of leading armies across the Universe.
    • The training node is ready to entertain the Bangladesh Army and it would be entertaining the Myanmar and Chinese armies coming year.
    • The Umroi cantonment was chosen for its establishment due to its closeness to the Guwahati and Shillong airports.
    • The node was finished in a record time of single year, in time to host ‘Exercise Milap’, a multi-nation joint training exercise with the Bangladesh Army by the Red Horn Division, under the sponsorship of the Gajraj Corps.
    • The expansion is expected to pave the way to project the Meghalaya and Assam states on the world map of foreign armies.
