    2016 G20 Summit concludes in - Hangzhou, China

    Among Important International Current Affairs, the 2016 G20 Summit was held for two days on 4 September and 5 September 2016 at the Hangzhou International Exhibition Centre, Hangzhou, China.

    The theme of this summit was Toward an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy.

    However, it was the first ever G20 summit to be hosted in China and the second Asian country to host the Summit. Before China, the name of the countries includes Seoul and South Korea, who hosted the 2010 G20 Summit.

    Also, it was the 11th summit since the inception of G20 in 1999. Here, the summit was attended by all the leaders of the G20 including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    The chair of the summit was Xi Jinping, President of China.

    Campaign to eradicate leprosy launched by - Union Health Ministry

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Health Ministry has recently launched the “Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC)” to eradicate leprosy from the country. 

    Here, the 2-week-long massive campaign was launched by Union Health Minister J P Nadda. It will be focusing on 149 endemic districts in India.

    Do You Know - 

    • LCDC aims to cover more than about 1,600 blocks in the 149 districts across 20 states where nearly 3 lakhs health teams will undertake door-to-door visits to detect leprosy cases.

    • However, under it nearly 3 lakhs health teams will undertake door-to-door visits to detect and treat leprosy and stop its spread. 

    • This campaign will be till September 18, 2016.

    Jackie Chan to be given honorary – Oscar

    Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, action movie star, writer, director and martial artist Jackie Chan will be given an honorary Academy (Oscar) Award for his extraordinary achievements in the movies.

    Jackie Chan will receive this honorary Oscar statuette at the Academy's 8th Annual Governors Awards, which is going to be held on 12 November 2016.

    Know About Jackie Chan – 

    • Chan Kong-sang, who is professionally known as Jackie Chan, is a Hong Kong martial artist, actor, film director, producer, stuntman, and singer.

    • In his particular movies, he is known for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, use of improvised weapons, and innovative stunts, which he typically performs himself. 

    • Also Jackie Chan has been training in Kung fu and Wing Chun. He has been acting since the 1960s and has appeared in over 150 films.

    Jan Shikshan Sansthan conferred with - 2016 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 1st September 2016 The Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) of Malappuram, Kerala was conferred with the 2016 Unesco Confucius Prize for Literacy. 

    This award was conferred on the JSS in recognition of its literacy-linked skill development activities among the underprivileged in rural areas.

    Also the JSS bagged the prestigious international award for its initiatives in applying new technology in literacy. Innovations such as Braille applications and the Talking Pen used by the JSS impressed UNESCO.

    Do You Know – 

    • The award sponsored by China, which consists of 20000 US dollars, a diploma, and a silver medal. 

    • Also, a JSS team will be given a free study tour to China.

    Indian conservationist Bibhuti Lahkar wins Heritage Heroes Award of - IUCN

    On 4th September 2016, Indian ecologist and conservation activist Bibhuti Lahkar on 4 September 2016 became the first Asian to be awarded the prestigious Heritage Heroes Award by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

    Here, Lahkar received the award at the IUCN's World Conservation Congress in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    However, the Indian ecologist was among five conservationists across the globe to be nominated for 2016 Heritage Heroes Award.
