    US swimmer Michael Phelps banned for 6 months

    Among the important Sports Current Affairs this month, On 6th October 2014 USA Swimming banned Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps for a time period of six months as he was found violating the organization's code of conduct. What actually happened was Michael Phelps was arrested in Baltimore for driving under the influence. 

    He was driving 84 mile per hour in 45 mile per hour zone and it was he second charge for driving under influence in a decade.

    He will not able to compete till 6th April 2015 so he will have to withdraw his name from 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

    Michael Phelps is a wonderful swimmer and has won total of 22 Olympic medals (18 Gold) between 2004 and 2012.  

    Hewlett-Packard to split into two publicly traded companies

    On 6th October 2014, Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced that it will split itself into two separate publicly traded companies. One part will be dealing with company's personal-computer and printer businesses while the other will deal with selling of computer servers, data-storage gear, software, consulting operations and other services for corporate-technology departments.

    As per HP, it is expected that by end of 2015 financial year this division will be complete. Shareholders of HP will be given stake in both the companies.

    Rahul Keshav Patwardhan will be next CEO of NIIT Limited

    On 6th October 2014, Rahul Keshav Patwardhan was appointed as next chief executive officer (CEO) of NIIT. Rahul Keshav Patwardhan will be taking charge at this position from 1st April 2015. 

    NIIT is an IT training solutions firm which was founded in 1981 with an aim of preparing skilled manpower pool for global industry requirements.

    Single visa deal inked between UK and Ireland

    Among the International Current Affairs, On 6th October 2014, MoU was signed between Britain and Ireland on new joint Visa cooperation. This MoU was signed by UK home secretary Theresa May and Irish Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald at Irish Embassy in London.

    As per this MoU, the non-European travelers will be provided with a common short-stay visa to these nations, means with this short stay visa travelers from outside the European Union will able to move move freely between the these countries. This facility will be boosting the tourism business in these nations.

    Nobel Prize 2014 for Physics

    Nobel Prize in Physics for 2014 was announced and was given to Isamu Akasaki (Meijo University, Nagoya, Japan and Nagoya University, Japan), Hiroshi Amano (Nagoya University, Japan) and Shuji Nakamura (University of California, Santa Barbara, CA, USA) for their valuable invention of blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources.
