    Which state govt proposed 14.5 per cent fat tax on junk food - Kerala Govt

    On 8th July 2016, Finance Minister of Kerala  T M Thomas Isaac proposed 14.5 percent tax on fast food viz. pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and tacos.
    This tax is in news because it is first of its kind. This has been done to promote healthy eating specially among young people as Junk food is leading cause of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, etc.

    India inked MoU's in four areas of cooperation with - South Africa

    Narendra Modi South Africa Among Important Current Affairs, On 8th July 2016, India inked MoUs with South Africa in four areas with an aim to enhance bilateral cooperation. It includes ICT (Information and communication technology), grass root innovation and tourism, arts and culture etc.
    These MoU's were inked while Prime Mister Narendra Modi was on a visit to South Africa in the presence of South African President Jacob Zuma.
    Important to mention here that PM Modi is on visit of four African countries these are Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya.

    Among Important Business Current Affairs, On 7th July 2016, Chief Operating Officer ( COO) of Microsoft Kevin Turner resigned. He worked for Microsoft for 11 years.
    Prior to this job he was working with WalMart Stores for 20 years.

    Name of noted Pakistani philanthropist who passed away - Abdul Sattar

    Abdul-Sattar-edhi Noted philanthropist, social activist, ascetic and humanitarian of Pakistan Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away on 8th July 2016. He was 88 years old.
    Pakistan's PM Mr Nawaz Sharif announced posthumous presidential medal for him to commemorate his services.
    He was earlier honoured with highest civilan honour of Pakistan Nishan-e Imtiaz. Apart from this he was receipent of various international awards like Ramon Magsaysay Award, International Balzan Prize, 2007 UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize and 2011 London Peace Award.
