National Green Tribunal bans tyre burning in public

The National Green Tribunal has banned the burning of tyres at public places, such as roads and areas surrounded by residential buildings and also during protests by political and religious groups as it is likely to cause health hazard.

Burning tyres creates toxic smoke, which is also a serious environmental threat. This ban was issued by Western Zone Bench of NGT after hearing a petition against the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the State of Maharashtra.

    Important to Note :

The issued ban will led to penal consequences in Section 26 of the National Green tribunal Act, 2010 to the person/group that neglects the order of ban. National Green tribunal Acts, Section 26 says that any failure in following the order can result into a penalty of 10 crore rupees that can be extended up to 25 crore rupees or/and imprisonment for a period of three years.
