    Who was named as brand ambassador for Beti Bachao, Beti Padao campaign in Haryana - Sakshi Malik

    Bronze medal winner in Rio Olympics Sakshi Malik was named as brand ambassador for Beti Bachao, Beti Padao campaign of Haryana Govt.
    She was also awarded with 2.5 crore rupees and Commendation Certificate by Haryana Govt. Apart from this her coaches Mandeep and Kuldeep was also awarded with cheque of 10 lakh each.

    E-library named Sugamya Pustakalaya was launched by Union Govt for - Persons with print Disabilities

    On 24th August 2016, Union Government lacuned Accessible E-Library for Divyand under Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan ( Accessible India Campaign ) and it was named as Sugamya Pustakalaya.
    Union ministers Prakash Javadekar, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Ravi Shankar Prasad were present at the time of launch.
    Sugamya Pustakalaya is an online platform which will make content available to print-disabled people as it contains more than 2 lakh books in diverse subjects and languages.

    Introduction of Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 approved by - Union Govt

    On 24th August 2016, Union Cabinet approved introduction of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016. This bill was introduced with an aim to have regulations for Surrogacy so its commercial usage can be stopped and ethical surrogacy can be given to needy infertile couples.
    As per this bill National Surrogacy Board at the central level will be established in India and state level boards will also be there. It will also protect the rights of surrogate mother and children and above all it will control the unethical practices in surrogacy.

    Former Governor Akhlaq Ur Rahman Kidwai passes away

    On 24th August 2016, Akhlaq Ur Rahman (AR) Kidwai passed away. He had served as Governor to different states including Bihar, West Bengal and Haryana. He was 96 years old.
    He was also member of Rajya Sabha from 2000 to 2004.

    US Postal Service honoured which Indian Festival with a Forever Stamp - Diwali

    On 23rd August 2016, United States Postal Service (USPS) announced to honour Hindu Indian festival of Diwali as it will launch a forever stamp for same. On 5th October 2016, it will be launched in New York at Consulate General of India.
    Important to mention here that there are more than 3 million Indian Americans who live in USA.
