    Who was named as greatest Test player of 21st century - Sachin Tendulkar

    Noted Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was voted as Best Test Player of the 21st. He was voted in an online poll conducted by official website of cricket Australia. Sachin Tendulkar got 23 percent votes to be numero uno.

    Who was appointed as acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court - Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee

    On 24th June 2015, Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee was appointed as acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He was appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee as per Article 223 of the Indian Constitution. 

    Do You Know :

    President of India can  appoint one of the other judges of a High Court as acting Chief Justice of High Court when the office of Chief Justice of High Court is vacant or when any such Chief Justice is, by reason of absence or otherwise, unable to perform the duties of his office as per article 223 of the Indian Constitution.

    Union Cabinet approved signing of MoC on Industrial Property with which country - Japan

    On 24th June 2015, Union Cabinet approved for signing of a MoC (Memorandum of Cooperation) between DIPP (Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion) and JPO (Japan Patent Office), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

    The MoC is aimed at establishing a framework for bilateral cooperation in the field of industrial property (IP) with emphasis on capacity building, human resource development and awareness generation.

    Following are the highlights of this MoC :

    IP Protection Systems and Practices information sharing,

    Cooperation in the area of examination, including utilization of the examiner-exchange program and Patent Cooperation Treaty,

    IP infrastructure development assistance etc.

    AMRUT, Smart Cities Mission and Housing for All schemes were launched by - PM Narendra Modi

    On 25th June 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three urban development schemes. These three schemes are : 

    • AMRUT, 
    • Smart Cities Mission and 
    • Housing for All (Urban).

    These schemes were launched by PM in New Delhi.

    AMRUT - Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is for developing infrastructure in 500 cities and towns that are having a population of one lakh and above with an outlay of 50000 crore rupees between 2015-16 and 2019-20.

    Smart Cities Mission - This mission is to develop 100 smart cities across the country with an outlay of 48000 crore rupees between 2015-16 and 2019-20.

    Housing for All (Urban) - This Scheme aimed at providing housing facilities to all eligible people in urban areas by 2022.

    Where was India's first Modernised Anganwadi Centre was launched - Hasanpur village (Sonipat)

    On 24th June 2015, Govt launched first modernised Anganwadi centre of India at Hasanpur village of Sonepat in Haryana. Union Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Maneka Gandhi inaugurated this modernised Anganwadi centre as part of Nand-Ghar Yojana of Union Government which aims at transforming the anganwadi centres.

    Praful Bidwai passed away, he was a - Veteran Journalist

    On 23rd June 2015, Mr. Praful Bidwai passed away. He was a noted journalist, columnist and peace activist. He was 65 years old.

    He was a founding member of Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace which was set up after 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests as he was also an anti-nuclear activist.

    He was honoured with Sean McBride International Peace Prize by the International Peace Bureau in recognition of their work opposing nuclear weapons development in South Asia.

    Union Cabinet approved renaming of SECI as - Renewable Energy Corporation of India

    On 24th June 2015, Renaming of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) as Renewable Energy Corporation of India (RECI) was approved by Union Govt. SECI was also given permission to apply to the Registrar of Companies (ROC) for converting it into a Section 3 company from a Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013. This will enable SECI to become a self-sustaining and self-generating organization. 

    Difference Between Section 3 and Section 8 : 

    Section 3 applies to those companies which have commercial activities for the sake of profits while Section 8 can only engage in charitable activities like promotion of commerce, art, science, sports, education, research, social welfare, religion, charity, etc. and should not have commercial aspect.

    SECI was established under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 in Sep 2011 for promotion and and commercialization of solar energy technologies

    Who was named as new President of ICC - Zaheer Abbas

    On 24th June 2015, Zaheer Abbas was named as the President of International Cricket Council. He was named as new President during ICC Annual Conference in Barbados. He will be assuming this role with immediate effect for one year. He will be succeeding Mustafa Kamal (Bangladesh).

    Zaheer Abbas is former Captain of Pakistan Cricket team and is only Asian batsman to score a series of first-class centuries with 108 first-class hundreds who finished his 22-year career with 34843 runs.

    Which country decided to join Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank - Australia

    On 24th June 2015, Australia said that it will be joining the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Australia will be joining as a founding member of AIIB. Australia will be contributing 930 million Australian dollars (718.5million US dollars) as paid-in capital to the institution over five years.

    Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is headquartered in Beijing.

    As far as India is concerned then India will be be the second-largest shareholder of the this Institution. This will be operational by December 2015.

    Who was conferred with Columbia's highest civilian award Order of the Democracy Simon Bolivar - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

    Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was honoured with Orden de la Democracia Simon Bolivar en el grado de cruz Caballero (Order of the Democracy Simon Bolivar) which is highest civilian award of Columbia. 

    Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is founder of Art of Living Foundation. He founded in 1981 with an aim to relieve individual stress, societal problems, and violence and make society better.

    The Order of the Democracy Simon Bolivar : It was created in 1980 to honour the outstanding citizens for their service to the nation in any field.
