    India equals record for most ducks in a test innings

    On 7th August 2014, Indian cricket team equaled the world record of maximum number of 6 ducks in a Test innings.  Now there are four teams which hold this record. Apart from India other three teams are Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. 

    While playing against England on first day of the Manchester Test six Indian players who were not able to score even a single run were : 

    • Murali Vijay - lost wicket to James Anderson
    • Cheteshwar Pujara - lost wicket to Stuart Broad
    • Virat Kohli - lost wicket to James Anderson
    • Ravindra Jadeja - lost wicket to James Anderson
    • Bhuvneshwar Kumar - lost wicket to Stuart Broad
    • Pankaj Singh - lost wicket to Stuart Broad

    Rosetta becomes the first spacecraft to ever go into orbit of a Comet named 67P

    On 6th August 2014,  Rosetta of European Space Agency became first ever spacecraft to reach a Comet named 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko that was discovered in 1969. It reached the aimed comet after travelling a long journey of 10 years, five months and four days.

    Rosetta crossed a distance of 6.4 billion km during this period which is more than five times the distance between the Earth and the Sun, using the gravity of both Mars and Earth to gather enough speed to sling-shot into the comet’s path.

    RBI proposes unified bill payment system

     On 7th August 2014, draft guidelines for implementation of Bharat Bill Payment System (BPPS) were issued by The Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This is an anytime anywhere bill payment system. Basic requirements of operating the BBPS were described in the proposed guidelines.

    Bharat Bill Payment System is trying for the pan country implementation of a unifiled bill payment system. Which will greatly help the customers to pay the bills with the help of agents and payment confirmation instantly. It would be easier for customers to pay School fees, municipal taxes and utility bills payments etc.

    Strictly Personal, Manmohan and Gursharan authored by Daman Singh

    On 5th August 2014,  book Strictly Personal, Manmohan and Gursharan written by Daman Singh was published. 

    As per author, the book do not describe Manmohan Singh as PM, but describes him as a family man whose life and loved ones were caught up in the maelstrom of history.

    Author also said that after Jawaharlal Nehru only Manmohan Singh had such influence on India and her economic policies. 

    WHO declared Ebola as Global Health Emergency

    On 6th August 2014, The World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in West Africa to be an international public health emergency and warned that it requires an extraordinary response to stop its spread.

    In history WHO has made such emergencies for Swine Flu and Polio.

    WHO has also constituted an expert committee this week to chek the severity of the ongoing epidemic. 

    Kapil Dev to head Arjuna Awards Selection Committee

    Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev will head the Arjuna Awards selection committee for choosing this year's outstanding sportspersons of the country.

    This Committee will be responsible for choosing outstanding sportspersons for 2014 of the Country. This Committee will be having total 15 members, having 12 sportspersons and 3 officials.

    Former Hockey Captain Ajitpal Singh to head Dronacharya Award Selection Committee

    On 7th August 2014,  former Hockey Captain Ajitpal Singh was selected as the Chairman of the Dronacharya Award Selection Committee, he is Three-time Olympian. 

    This committee will be having total 15 members, including 12 sportspersons and three officials.
