    Who ends 16-year-long fast - Irom Sharmila

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Irom Chanu Sharmila who is known as The Iron Lady of Manipur has ended her 16-year-long hunger strike at the age of 44 for repealing of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) of 1958 from Manipur. 

    However, after ending her 16-year-long hunger strike, she finally declared that she wants to bring some positive changes in the state by actively participating in politics and contesting elections too. 

    Know About Irom Chanu Sharmila – 

    • Irom Chanu Sharmila is populary known as The Iron Lady of Manipur, who born on 14 March 1972 in Imphal, Manipur. 

    • Irom is also a civil rights activist, political activist, and poet also. Oher than Iron Lady of Manipur, she is also known as Mengoubi (the fair one).

    Which player wins first gold for host country Brazil: Rio Olympics - Judoka Silva

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 9th August 2016 Judoka Rafaela Silva won the women’s 57kh judo gold at Rio Olympics in Brazil. 

    Along with this, Judoka Silva also won the first gold for the host country Brazil at the Olympic Games Rio 2016.

    Here, Silva’s win was extra special as she grew up in host city Rio de Janeiro and blossomed to become an Olympic champion despite the tough conditions of her native City of God favela.

    Who has been appointed as Managing Director of SBI - Dinesh Kumar Khara

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Dinesh Kumar Khara has been appointed as a Managing Director (MD) of State Bank of India (SBI), which is India’s largest lender. 

    However, his appointment was confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. D K Khara was appointed for the period of total three years. 

    Before this appointment, he was also working as MD and chief executive of SBI Funds Management Pvt. Ltd. Besides this, ACC also appointed Ashok Kumar Garg and Raj Kamal Verma as executive directors of Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Union Bank of India (UBI), respectively.

    Steps taken by Government to protect Protected Species in - India

    In the various Schedules of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, there are around 909 entries of taxa (including species, families, genus, orders and classes) of animals, birds and plants.

    By the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) various steps have been taken to protect these species. 

    However, this information was given by Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anil Madhav Dave, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

    Who has been reappointed as CMD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp - Pawan Munjal

    On 9th August 2016, The Board of Directors at Hero MotoCorp has been reappointed Pawan Munjal as the Chairman, Managing Director (CMD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company for a period of around five years.

    This reappointment will be effective from 1st October 2016.

    However, Pawan Munjal’s current tenure will comes to an end on 30th September 2016.

    Whereas, on the other hand Hero MotoCorp has also appointed Vikram Kasbekar - Head of Operations & Supply Chain - to the Board of Directors of the company.
