    Japan’s first private rocket ‘Momo-3’ released into - Space

    Interstellar Technologies have become Japan’s 1st private organisation who released its own
    rocket ‘Momo-3’ into space. Interstellar Technologies released Momo-3 rocket from Hokkaido
    space centre. Founder of Interstellar Technologies Takafumi Horie informed that it was an ample
    success. We’ll work to attain stable launches and mass-produce (rockets) in quick cycles.
    Important Highlights

    • Total flight duration was 515 seconds and it reached at height of 113.4 kms.
    • Duration from lift-off to apogee was 240 seconds and splashdown distance was 37 kms from the
      launch site.
    • IST is coming with ZERO rocket with aim of providing reasonable, flexible access to space.
      ZERO will carry 100 kgs of payload to an altitude of 500 kms.
    • Interstellar Technologies open-up in a press release that Momo series rockets are development and
      experimental rockets and their ultimate aim is to formulate ZERO rocket.

    Chris Gayle named Vice- Captain in last World Cup , hosting from - 30th May 2019

    Veteran batsman Chris Gayle has been named as the new West Indies Vice-Captain for the
    forthcoming International Cricket Council Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be hosted by
    England and Wales from May 30th, 2019.
    The 39 years old Gayle has captained his side earlier in 90 matches across the 3 formats between
    2007 and 2010. Total, he has represented the West Indies in 103 Tests, 289 One-Day Internationals
    & 58 T20 Internationals, scoring 18992 international scores.
    Important Highlights

    • The forthcoming Cricket World Cup would be Chris Gayle’s last 50 overs tournament, as he
      declared in February 2019 that he would be retiring from the format after the 2019 Cricket World
      Cup.
    • Gayle, is the Caribbean side’s most experienced member and will effort as a deputy to captain
      Jason Holder. 
    • He has scored 10151 runs in 289 One-Day Internationals with the highest score of 215 against
      Zimbabwe during the 2015 edition of the World Cup.
    • West Indies will initiate their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on May 31st, 2019.

    India, Turkey agree to boost trade, investment ties on - 8th May 2019

    India and Turkey on May 8th, 2019 deided to fortify their economic ties to majorly expand their bilateral trade by 2020. It was finalised after the discussions organised between Gitesh A Sarma, Secretary (West) and  Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal, who is on a 3 days visit to India, under the institutional mechanism of foreign office consultations.
    Important Highlights

    • The 2 countries organised cordial talks on various aspects of bilateral ties including exploring
      opportunities for improving investment and trade ties.
    • Presently, the bilateral trade between India and Turkey stands at approximate USD 8.6 billion. The countries aim to expand it to USD 10 billion by 2020.
    • Besides this, the countries also debated other aspects of assistance including enhanced cultural interaction, tourism and people-to-people contacts.
    • The both nations also reviewed the present situation in their respective regions and exchanged views on various multilateral matters.

    Former SC judge of India designated as Member of Commonwealth Tribunal on - 8th May 2019

    Former Supreme Court judge, Justice (Retired) K.S.Radhakrishnan, was designated as the Member of the Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal of London on May 8th, 2019. He will work for a 4 years term from June 1st, 2019 to May 31st, 2023 as a Member of the Tribunal.
    The Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal resolves disagreements of the Commonwealth
    organisations, international or intergovernmental.
    More about Justice (Retired) KS Radhakrishnan

    • Radhakrishnan started his legal career by enrolling as an advocate in 1983 in Kerala. 
    • During his practice years, he looked as Standing Counsel for Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala State Co-operative Rubber Marketing Federation, SBI and State Trading Corporation of India.
    • He worked as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court and J&K High Court.
      Radhakrishnan worked as a Judge of the Supreme Court for 5 years from November 2009-May 2014.
    • As a Supreme Court judge, Radhakrishnan tackled few famous cases including SEBI vs Sahara case, 2014 Jallikattu ruling, and many more.
    • He was also a part of the 2-judge Bench which ruled in the NALSA vs Union of India case, recognising transgender as a 3rd gender and giving them the same Constitutional rights as others.
    • For his landmark Jallikattu ruling, he was presented with the “Man of the Year” prize by PETA.

    CBIC organises meeting of WCO’s Asia Pacific Region under - Ministry of Finance 

    Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, under Ministry of Finance is planning a meeting of Regional Heads of Customs Administration of Asia Pacific Region of World Customs Organisation in Kochi, Kerala from 8-10th May, 2019. As India presently holds seat of Vice Chairperson of Asia Pacific region assumed on 1st July 2018 for a 2 years period, it is hosting this meeting in this capacity.
    Key Highlights of Meeting

    • It will talk about progress being made in bringing forward various initiatives and programs of World
      Customs Organisation, in promoting, securing and easing cross-border business in Asia Pacific region.
    • It will also tackle capacity building and technical assistance needed to attain this goal.
    • Pranab Kumar Das, Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs will lead the meeting.
    • Various members of meeting comprise customs delegations from more than 20 nations of Asia Pacific region and senior officials of World Customs Organisation and its regional bodies namely Regional Intelligence Liaoning Office and Regional Office for Capacity Building.
    • Main focus areas of the meeting include, execution of business facilitation measures, building capacity of small island economies, cross-border e-commerce transactions, trusted trader programs, and continuous review of Revised Kyoto Convention.

    Pioneer Indian Lawyer Dr N. R. Madhava Menon passes away in - Thiruvananthapuram

    Dr N.R.Madhava Menon an educationist, scholar and pioneer of Indian legal education, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram at an age of 84 years. He is considered as ‘Father of Modern Legal Education’, for upgrading the face of Indian legal education.
    Achievements
    He is pioneer in founding of National Law Schools in India.
    He also intellectualized 5 years integrated LLB/Bachelor of Legislative Law course, in place of past 3
    years course.
    He was founder director of National Law School of India University, established in 1987 in Bangalore. He also led it for 12 years.
    In 1998 he founded West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences. Later, he chaired as founder
    director of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, till his retirement in 2006.
    In 1994, he was bestowed “Living Legend of Law Award” by International Bar Association.
    He was facilitated by India’s fourth highest civilian award ‘Padma Shri’, in 2003 for his outstanding
    contribution to public services.
    He is also a recipient of “Rotary Club Award” for Vocational Excellence and the Plaque of Honour from Bar Council of India.
