    HUL got its first woman director with appointment of Kalpana Morparia

    On 9th October 2014, Kalpana Morparia was appointed as director of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), with this appointment she also became first woman director of HUL.

    Kalpana Morparia is serving as chief executive officer (CEO) of J.P. Morgan India. 

    Kalpana Morparia is independent director on the boards of several companies as CMC Ltd, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, Phillip Morris International Inc. and Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd.

    Nobel peace prize 2014 won by Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai

    On 10th October 2014, an Indian and a Pakistani national was awarded Nobel peace prize for 2014. 

    Kailash Satyarthi of India and Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan were awarded the Nobel peace prize 2014 jointly for showing great personal courage and in their struggle against the suppression of children and for the right of all children to education. 

    Aamir Khan appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia

    On 9th October 2014, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in South Asia. He will be focusing on supporting child nutrition to end stunting across the region. He was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador on 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). 

    UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in 190 countries and territories.

    Prosper Utseya of Zimbabwe and Sohag Gazi of Bangladesh banned by ICC for illegal action

    Among the Important Sports Current Affairs, On 8th October 2014, International Cricket Council (ICC) banned two bowlers for their illegal action. These two bowlers are Prosper Utseya of Zimbabwe and Sohag Gazi of Bangladesh. 

    It was found that above two off spinners were exceeding the 15 degree limit of arm extension while bowling.
