    Pashmina Promotion Programme (P3) launched by Union Government

    On 8th October 2014, Pashmina Promotion Programme (P3) launched by Union Government at Dehairing Plant Complex, Skalzangling, Leh.  Union Minister of State for Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar launched this programme with an aim to increase production of pashmina wool in a time bound manner. It is aimed to increase its production upto 65 tonnes during 12th Five year plan i.e. 2012-2017.

    Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to launch Pashmina Promotion Programme on 12th August 2014 for improving quality and quantity of pashmina wool so that living standard of poor nomads of Ladakh region can be improved.

    Pashmina or Cashmere is a fine luxury fibre which is produced from Changthang goats in the Ladakh region of India. 

    Book titled "Syntheism: Creating God in The Internet Age" authored by Alexander Bard released

    Book titled "Syntheism: Creating God in The Internet Age" authored by Alexander Bard was released.  Syntheism is a word taken by Greek work Syntheos and means humanity creates God - as opposed to the God creates humanity, basis of the traditional monotheistic religions.

    Alexander Bard is an Activist, musician and a religious leader who founded a new religion called Syntheism, where he claimed that the internet is God. He gives the fact that if man creates God, than it was time to create a religion that is relevant to 21st century.

    At Georgetown University, Pratima Dharm appointed as first Hindu priest

    Georgetown University got its first Hindu priest (Chaplain) with Pratima Dharm appointment. Previously Pratima Dharm was serving in US Army, there also she was first Hindu Priest.

    She was appointed to serve the religious needs of Hindu students on University. She will be having responsibility to lead the weekly Hindu pujas and other programmes that could better Hindu education on campus.

    Pratima Dharm is a native of Mumbai and moved to US in 2001.

    Veteran journalist Madhav Vittal Kamath passed away at 93

    On 9th October 2014, Veteran journalist and former chairman of Prasar Bharati Board Madhav Vittal Kamath passed away at the age of 93. He died following a cardiac arrest at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. 

    Writer of more than 50 books Madhav Vittal Kamath was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contributions to Indian journalism. 

    His latest book was "Narendra Modi - The Architect of a Modern State".

    He was awarded Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian journalism in 2004.

    Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's India Visit

    Among the Current Affairs of Important Visits, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is on two day visit to India from 9 October to 10 October 2014, with an aim to take help from India in connecting people of the world.

    He will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi too. He addressed Internet.org summit where he presented different social and economic roadblocks on the way of connectivity, and said that internet is right of every person.   

    9th October observed as World Post Day acorss the globe

    On 9th October 2014, World Post Day was observed across the globe with an aim to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people's and business's everyday lives as well as its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.

    In 1969, Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo (Japan) declared a day to be observed as the World Post Day, since then it is observed yearly.

    Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2014  was bagged by Eric Betzig, Stefan W Hell and William E. Moerner. It was given to them or the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.

    Nobel prize in Literature 2014 was bagged by Patrick Modiano

    Nobel Prize in Literature for 2014 is awarded to the French author Patrick Modiano for for the art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation”.

    Patrick Modiano is 69 years old and has authored more than two dozen books and many screenplays.
