    Which state government to make Aadhar Card mandatory for procurement of paddy – Odisha

    Among Important National Current Affairs, in a bid to maintain transparency and ensure quick payment of dues, the Odisha government has finally decided to make Aadhar Card mandatory for procurement of paddy in the state.

    On 11th August 2016, in a meeting at the state secretariat in Bhubaneswar, it was decided to link Aadhaar cards of farmers to the cooperative banks and the peasants’ accounts for online transfer of cost of paddy to be procured from the coming kharif season.

    China’s Ma Long becomes fifth male Grand Slam winner at - Rio Olympics

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 11th August 2016 China’s table tennis champion Ma Long defeated China’s Zhang Jike by 4-0 and grabbed the gold medal in Table Tennis at Rio Olympics 2016.

    After this win, Long became the fifth male player, who completed the Grand Slam, and the second male player ever to be the defending champion of all three majors at the same time. Jike was the first player to do so. Jike clinched the silver medal.

    Which state government to grant 33% reservation to women in Urban Local Bodies – Nagaland

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 10th August 2016 The Nagaland Government decided to grant 33 percent reservation to women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). 

    This decision was however taken during a cabinet meeting held in Kohima.

    By the Chief Minister TR Zeliang, the decision was announced during the State Level Watershed Conference held in Kohima.

    However, Zeliang has said that the state has not been able to avail the annual developmental funds granted by the Centre for ULBs, which was a big loss.

    Novel drug compound inhibiting skin cancer discovered - NCCS Study 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, researchers from the Pune-based National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) have finally got the success and isolated cancer stem cells that cause skin cancer. 

    However, they have successfully demonstrated that Andrographolide (a compound) isolated and purified from Andrographis paniculata (a herb) found in India is effective in inhibiting tumour growth both in skin cancer and lung metastasis in mice.
