    Amendments to Indian Cinematograph Act,1952 by -  The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting

    The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has published the draft amendment bill to modify the Indian Cinematograph Act, 1952. The modifications are brought in counter the film piracy.
    Amendments proposed

    • To check piracy, particularly issue of the pirated version of movies on the internet which causes
      enormous losses to the film industry & government exchequer, an enabling establishment in the
      Cinematograph Act, 1952 would be added.
    • The modification bill goals to add a new sub-section (4) of section 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
    • under which the piracy would be a punishable offence with detention of 3 years & fines of up to Rupees 10 lakh or both.
    • The punishment is arranged those, who utilise any recording device to make/transmit a copy of the visual recording/sound recording of a film/attempts to make or transmit/assist the making/transmission of such a replica without the written authorisation of the copyright owner.

    6 states sign agreement for Renukaji Multipurpose Dam Project on - 11th January 2019

    6 states including UP, Haryana, HP, Delhi, Rajasthan & Uttarakhand inked a MoU for Renukaji Dam
    Multipurpose Project on January 11th, 2019. The project is focused at meeting the drinking water requirements of these states.
    The pact was inked in the presence of Union Water Resources, River Development &  Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. All the 6 CMs were also present on the occasion.
    Renukaji Dam Multipurpose Project

    • Under the project, 3 storage projects are suggested to be built on the river Yamuna & 2 of its tributaries incliding Tons & Giri in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand & HP.
    • These include:
      - Lakhwar project on river Yamuna in Uttarakhand
      - Kishau on river Tons in Uttarakhand & HP Renukaji on river Giri in HP
      - These 3 projects were perceived in 2008 & were identified as National Projects.
      - The 90% funding of the cost of irrigation &  drinking water component of these projects will be given by the union government as central assistance.
    • The outstanding 10% cost of the irrigation & drinking water component will be contributed by the beneficiary states.

    Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri receive honorary membership of Sydney Cricket Ground on - 11th January 2019

    Indian cricket team's skipper Virat Kohli & coach Ravi Shastri on January 11th, 2019 got the honorary membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground for their role to the sport of cricket. The Indian team defeated Australia 2-1 in the 4-match Test series, ending the nation's 71-years old wait for a rare series victory Down Under.
    The Sydney Cricket Ground congratulated India and Indian Cricket team on attaining the feat & its Chairman Tony Shepherd was quoted that it is wonderful to realize the world's largest cricketing nation putting its attention resolutely on Test cricket - a step that will strengthen the pre-eminence of Tests in the global cricketing landscape.
    Crucial Highlights

    • The only other international cricketers to be settled the honorary membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground, apart from Kohli & Shastri, are the iconic Sachin Tendulkar & Brian Lara from West Indies.
    • Speaking on the occasion, the Sydney Cricket Ground Chairman Shepherd informed that Virat Kohli & Ravi Shastri have been at the forefront & Test cricket is well working having both placing such importance on the 5-day format.
    • Kohli has repeated his love for Test cricket on various occasions throughout India’s tours of England & Australia while Ravi Shastri ranked the series victory bigger than the 1983 World Cup & the 1985 World Championship for him on a personal level just because it came in the longest format of the game.
    • Commenting via a tweet, Shastri informed that it is a great honour to get the honorary life membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground along with Kohli.
