    Himachal Pradesh to host First Para-gliding World Cup in India

    Paragliding World Cup Association selected Himachal Pradesh as a venue to host the 2015 para-gliding World Cup. This will be the first para-gliding World Cup to be hosted in India. The tournament will be organised under the aegis of Para-gliding World Cup Association, France.

    The information was disclosed by Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, who is also Chairman of the Billing Paragliding Association on 13 August 2014.

    The World Cup will be hosted in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh from 24 October 2015 and will see around 150 top ranked pilots of the world besides 500 free flying pilots as participants. 

    Real Madrid won UEFA Super Cup in Cardiff

    Among the Sports current affairs, On 13th Aug 2014, Real Madrid football club clinched the UEFA Football Super Cup, the first European trophy of the season. To lift the trophy, Real Madrid defeated Sevilla football club, 2-0 in Cardiff, Wales. With this win, Madrid has 14 major European trophies. 

    Both the goals were scored by Cristiano Ronaldo. First goal was scored on the half-hour mark, whereas the second goal was made after half-time.

    Vijayawada to be ad hoc capital of Andhra Pradesh

    On 12th August 2014, Andhra Pradesh Government decided to make Vijayawada its ad hoc capital. Vijayawada will be an ad hoc capital until the needed infrastructure and other projects for the new capital are completed.

    The decision to make Vijayawada as ad hoc capital was taken at a meeting of Advisory Committee on Capital City headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

    Delhi University Professor Dr. Sunil Kumar bagged Global South Award

    On 13th Aug 2014, Delhi University professor Dr. Sunil Kumar received Global South Award given by International Political Science Association (IPSA). The award was given at the 23rd world congress of political science held in Montreal, Canada.

    Dr. Kumar received the award in recognition of outstanding work on the politics of the developing world. He was awarded for his paper titled Changing Landscape of Electoral Democracy and Political Demography: A Study of 2014 General Elections in India.

    He is an Associate Professor in Political Science Department of Shyam Lal College of Delhi Univeristy.

    The first Global South Award was bagged by Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav in 2009.

    Union Cabinet approved 4 highway projects in J&K to provide all-weather connectivity

    On 13th August 2014, Union Cabinet approved four highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir for all-weather connectivity in the Valley. Apart from this, the Cabinet also enhanced the fund allocation by over 8000 crore rupees to around 28324 crore rupees under the National Highways Development Project of Jammu and Kashmir. 

    The four highway projects of Jammu and Kashmir are 

    • Srinagar-Banihal
    • Qazigund-Banihal
    • Chenani-Nashri 
    • Jammu-Udhampur
