    10th Meeting of Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis held in - New Delhi

    The 10th Meeting of Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis- GAELF was organised in New Delhi, India. It was inducted by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P.Nadda. This is 2 nd time India organising meeting of Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis. Past in 2002, India had organised 2 nd meeting of Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.
    Key Points

    • The 10th meeting documented that India has highest problem of Lymphatic Filariasis and there is necessity of take lead role to eradicate lymphatic filariasis.
    • It delivered insight of larger global initiative and make them able to participate in conversation and contribute to resolutions.
    • On this eve, Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis awards was given to Eleven nations including Cambodia, Egypt, Maldives, Cook Islands, Niue, Marshall Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, Togo and Vanuatu for their effectively interrupting the broadcast. Moreover, India’s Augmented Plan for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis 2018 was also outed.
      Lymphatic Filariasis
    • Lymphatic Filariasis is normally known as Elephantiasis. It is one of primogenital and most debilitating deserted topical disease, which is presently endemic in 73 nations, including India.
    • Lymphatic Filariasis disease is caused by Wuchereria Bancrofti and further transmitted by mosquito Culex.
    • The disease inffects the poorest population living in areas with poor sanitation, water and hygiene. Lymphatic Filariasis may cause everlasting disfigurement, compact productivity and social disgrace.
      Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis
    • Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis is association of partners from 72 Lymphatic Filariasis endemic national country initiatives, Non-Government Organisations, academic and examination institutes that contributes World Health Organisation’s Global Programme to Eradicate Lymphatic Filariasis.

    HDFC Bank gets Cabinet nod to raise Rs 24000 crore as -  FDI

    The Union Cabinet led by the PM permitted foreign direct investment worth Rupees 24,000 crores for
    HDFC Bank. This comprises the premium, over and above the earlier sanctioned limit of Rupees 10,000 crores, such that the composite foreign stake holding in the Bank shall not surpass 74 percent of the heightened paid-up equity share capital of the bank.
    With this floating of this capital, Foreign Direct Investment in the HDFC bank would hit the regulatory
    ceiling of 74 percent. It would also make sure that the compound foreign stake holding in the bank including all type of direct and indirect foreign investments, will not surpass 74 percent of the enhanced paid-up equity share capital of the bank.
    The decision will be subject to FDI Policy conditionalities and other sectoral regulations and guidelines.
    Objective

    The fund-raising conclusion to permit the Foreign Direct Investment in the bank which is the major by any Indian firm taken against the backdrop of robust growth in the bank balance sheets over the past 2 years and an anticipation that credit demand will resuscitate as the economy stabilises.

    Sale of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to India approved by - US Government

    The US State Department has permitted sale of 6 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters along with support
    equipment to India. The Apache helicopters are one of the most advanced multi-role combat choppers
    which are equipped with advanced weapons systems and night-fighting features, industrialised by Boeing.
    Key Facts

    • The sum projected cost of the deal is $930 million. The deal also comprises 180 Hellfire Longbow air-to-surface anti Armor missiles, 90 R-3 Hellfire-II air to surface missiles, 200 Stinger Air to Air missiles, 30 mm cannons and ammunition.
    • It also comprises communication equipment, spare/repair parts, training, engineering and other assistance.
    • The major contractors for the support sale will be Lockheed Martin, Longbow, Raytheon General Electric and Boeing.
    • The sale of Apache attack coppers will toughen India’s ability to defend its homeland and discourage regional threats.
    • It will upsurge in India’s defensive capability to counter ground armoured fears and update Indian Armies. India will have no trouble absorbing the choppers and support equipment into its armed forces.

    Himachal Cabinet approves admission of 100 MBBS students for 2018-19 on - 14th June 2018
