Who was awarded with prestigious PEN Pinter Prize 2016 - Margaret Atwood

Among Important Awards, On 16th June 2016, Margaret Atwood was awarded with 2016 PEN Pinter Prize. She is noted poet, novelist and environmental activist.
She will be getting awarded with this prize at British Library on 13 October 2016.

Name of first mammal declared extinct from human-caused climate change - Bramble Cay melomys

As per new study by scientists it came into light that Bramble Cay melomys were recorded as first extinction of a mammal anywhere in the world because of climate change made by human.
Bramble Cay melomys are rats which are also known as Bramble Cay mosaic-tailed rat.

With how many subsidiaries SBI bank was approved for merger - Five subsidiaries

Among Important Banking Current Affairs, On 15th June 2016, Union cabinet approved merger of five subsidiaries of Bank to State Bank of India.
These five banks are :

• State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur
• State Bank of Hyderabad
• State Bank of Mysore
• State Bank of Patiala
• State Bank of Travancore

Apart from these five banks, proposal to merge Bharatiya Mahila Bank has also been approved by Cabinet.
Important to mention here that after this merger SBI will be among top 50 banks in world.

What will be expected benefits ?

As India is fastest growing major economy in the world so with an aim to sustain this growth there will be a need of mega bank which will deal with large scale infrastructure projects and it will also overcome problems of non performing assets.

Bill to fast track recovery of bad loans was approved by - Union Cabinet

Among Banking Current Affairs, On 15th June 2016, Enforcement of Security Interest and Recovery of Debts Laws and Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was approved by Union Govt as this bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on 11th May 2016.
This bill is also aimed to improved ease of doing business and get more investments in the economy.
Following Four bills has been ammended :

• Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002
• Recovery of Debts due to Banks and Financial Institutions (RDDBFI) Act, 1993
• Indian Stamp Act, 1899
• Depositories Act, 1996

On 16th June 2016, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development launched Vidyanjali Mobile App with an aim to help volunteers to register themselves to work at government schools.
Important to mention here that Volunteers will not able to teach students in schools but they can help students in reading and theatre type non-scholastic activities.

Name of nuclear icebreaker launched by Russia - Arktika

On 16th June 2016, New Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker was launched by Russia. This powerful vessel was named as Arktika. This is 189.5 yards long and 37.1 yards wide and fitted with two RITM-200 nuclear power reactors.
This is world's most powerful nuclear icebreaker fully built in Russia. With its help convoys can be escorted in Arctic as it can break 10 feet thick ice.
Two more icebrakers 22220 projects will be in making by Baltic Shipyard of Russia with Rosatom collaboration which will be commissioned in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
