    Indian Navy inducts 4 types of indigenously developed – Sonars

    Among Important National Current Affairs, the Indian Navy has formally inducted four types of indigenously developed sonars that will boost its underwater surveillance capability. 

    However, the systems have been designed and developed by NPOL Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), a Kochi based laboratory of DRDO.

    Union Government sets up which committee to look into concerns of tourists, NRIs - Inter Ministerial Committee

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 17th November 2016 The Union Government constituted the inter-ministerial committee to look into the areas of concern expressed by NRIs and tourists from abroad and foreign missions over demonetisation of 500 and 1000 rupees notes.

    However, this committee will be headed at the level of an additional secretary. A senior joint secretary from the Ministry of External Affairs is also a member of the committee.

    Scientists produce faster-growing crops by improving – Photosynthesis

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Scientists have finally improved the photosynthesis process in the plants to produce faster-growing crops. 

    However, the breakthrough was published in the journal Science. They had used genetic modification technology to improve photosynthesis in the plants. 

    Here, this modification increased amount of sunlight energy crop plants can channel into food production.

    Jammu and Kashmir Government launches - Jhelum-Tawi Flood Recovery Project

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Jammu and Kashmir Government has launched Jhelum-Tawi flood recovery project to give push to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure post-2014 floods in the state. 

    However, the project which is funded World Bank was formally launched Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar.

    Union Government bans controversial NGO of - Zakir Naik

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 15th November 2016 The Union Government has declared Zakir Naik’s NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), as an ‘unlawful organisation’ and banned it for five years. 

    However, ‘Unlawful organization means any organization that conducts or gets involved in any activity deemed punishable under Section 153A or 153B of the Indian Penal Code. 

    Also these two sections are provisions that deal with threat to social and communal harmony.’

    Please Note – 

    • The ban was imposed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) after a final go-ahead at a Union Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

    • Also a formal notification for the same will be soon issued by the Home Ministry.
