    2016 BRICS Convention on Tourism begins in - Madhya Pradesh

    Among Important National Current Affairs, at UNESCO World heritage site Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, the 2016 BRICS Convention on Tourism has begun with an aim to promote intra-regional tourism. 

    This two day convention was inaugurated by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Tourism and Culture. 

    In October, 2016 the convention has been organized as a precursor to the BRICS Summit to be held in Goa. 

    Sony Pictures to acquire sports channels of which channel for 385 million US dollar – Zee

    Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, on 31st August 2016 Sony Pictures Networks India declared the acquisition of sports broadcasting business of Zee Entertainment for 385 million US dollar in an all-cash deal.

    However, Zee's TEN Sports channels being acquired include TEN 1, TEN 1 HD, TEN 2, TEN 3, TEN Golf HD, TEN Cricket, TEN Sports. Also these channels operate in several countries including the Indian sub-continent, Maldives, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East, Caribbean.

    In South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe the TEN Sports holds cricket rights. 

    Please Note: It also holds the rights for world wrestling, some football leagues, WTA and ATP tennis events, golf tours, Asian and Commonwealth Games athletics, motor Sports and cycling events, including Tour de France.

    Bezwada Wilson, Thodur Madabusi Krishna receive - Ramon Magsaysay Award 2016

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 31st August 2016 Carnatic singer Thodur Madabusi Krishna and Bezwada Wilson, campaigner for eradication of manual scavenging has received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2016.

    However, they were among six persons who received this award. Four others who received the award are: Conchita Carpio-Morales of the Philippines, Dompet Dhuafa of Indonesia, Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and Vientiane Rescue of Laos.

    Union Cabinet approves grant of Permanent Residency Status for - Foreign Investors

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Cabinet has finally approved the scheme for granting of Permanent Residency Status (PRS) to foreign investors. 

    Here, this status will be subject to the relevant conditions in the FDI Policy, which is notified by the Central Government from time to time. 

    Also, the scheme is expected to encourage foreign investment in India and facilitate Make in India Programme.

    Who has been appointed as Chancellor of TERI University - Ashok Chawla

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Ashok Chawla, who is a Former Finance Secretary has been appointed as the new Chancellor of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) University. 

    However, the decision of his appointment was taken in the governing council meeting of TERI. 

    Know About Ashok Chawla -  

    • Currently Ashok Chawla is serving as the Chairman of TERI since February 2016. 

    • After this appointment, TERI has ended its last association with former Chancellor and Head R.K. Pachauri, who was accused of sexually harassing a female colleague in 2015.

    Indian-origin Ajei Gopal named CEO of – ANSYS

    On 30th August, 2016 a software industry veteran Ajei Gopal was named as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a leading US company ANSYS.

    Ajei Gopal is all set to take over the charge of the Pennsylvania-based company with effect from 1st January, 2017.

    Since 2000, James Cashman, who has served as ANSYS’ CEO, will become Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective from January 2017.
