    What is the name of the World’s longest and deepest rail tunnel which has been inaugurated - Gotthard Base Tunnel

    Among Important International Current Affairs, in Switzerland, The world’s longest and deepest railway tunnel which is called as Gotthard Base Tunnel was inaugurated.

    In December 2016, the full service of twin-bore tunnel is all set to begin. This Gotthard Base Tunnel is about 57-kilometer long and it connects northern and southern Europe and best part is, it also shortens travel time for many rail routes. 

    Gotthard Base Tunnel has overtaken Japan’s Seikan tunnel, which measures 53.9 kilometers, as the longest rail tunnel in the world.

    Know About Gotthard Base Tunnel – 

    • GBT, which is also known as The Gotthard Base Tunnel is a railway base tunnel which started on 1 June 2016.

    • GBT is known to be the world's longest and deepest traffic tunnel[5][6] and the first flat, low-level route through the Alps.

    Who releases National Disaster Management Plan – PM Narendra Modi

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP). Aim of this plan is to make India disaster resilient and also reduce loss of lives. 

    According to report, the first of its kind of national plan is based on the four priority themes of the “Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-30” which includes – 

    a) Understanding disaster risk

    b) Improving disaster risk governance 

    c) Investing in disaster risk reduction (through structural and non-structural measures) and

    d) Disaster preparedness, early warning and building back better in the aftermath of a disaster.

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, Indian Cricket Player Sachin Tendulkar, who is popular as the ‘God Of Cricket’ has agreed to support CPI-M LDF government in Kerala to use his name in a campaign against drug and liquor abuse in the state.

    On 1 June 2016, This was stated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after Mr Tendulkar along with three other co-owners of the Kerala Blasters Football Club (KBFC) met him.

    Know About Sachin Tendulkar – 

    • Former Indian cricketer and captain Sachin Tendulkar widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

    • He took up cricket as his career at the age of eleven made his Test debut on 15 November 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of sixteen, and went on to represent Mumbai domestically and India internationally for close to twenty-four years.

    India joins the Hague Code of Conduct against - Ballistic Missile Proliferation

    Against Ballistic Missile Proliferation (HCoC), India has joined the Hague Code of Conduct, which is a global ballistic missile proliferation regime. 

    Although, India has joined the Code highlighting its readiness to further strengthen global non-proliferation objectives. 

    Finally, India has made it clear that it will not have any impact on the national security as well as country’s missile programmes.
