    Author of "The Making of India: The Untold Story of British Enterprises" - Kartar Lalvani

    Book "The making of India: The untold story of British Enterprises" was released in April 2016 which has been authored by Kartar Lalvani. This book discusses about the British rule and its role in India's making.
    The book is the first to assess in a single volume almost all aspects of Britain's contribution in providing India with its lasting institutional and physical infrastructure.

    Name of Chinese professor who was honoured with George Grierson prize for promoting Hindi - Ge Fuping

    Among Important Prizes and Recognisitions, Chinese professor Ge Fuping was awarded with George Grierson prize for his remarkable works done for the propagation of Hindi abroad. He was presented with this award by President Pranab Mukherjee.
    Alka Dunputh (from Mauritius) and Shichiro Soma (from Japan) were also given the George Grierson award.

    George Grierson awards were instituted by Central Hindi Institute, Agra in 1989. 14 scholars receive this award in seven different categories every year for their contribution in the field of Hindi language and literature.

    Rank of India in World Press Freedom Index is - 133rd

    Among Important Current Affairs, On 20th April World Press Freedom Index was released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). This is a general indicator about media freedom.
    Out of 180 countries India ranked 133 with an score of 43.17, last year this score was 40.49.
    This low score of India and poor ranking is because of number of journalists killed and the impunity for crimes of violence against the media.

    Finland topped this list and followed by Netherlands ( 2nd ), Norway ( 3rd ), Denmark ( 4th ) and New Zealand (5th).

    Which two companies signed agreement to install energy storage project in Haryana - Panasonic and US-based AES

    Among Important Agreements, On 18th April 2016, Panasonic India and AES India Private Limited inked an MoU to construct 10 MW energy storage array at Panasonic's Technopark manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana.
    This is first of its kind large scale battery based energy storage project if we talk about India. This project will be built with an aim to provide reliability and back-up to the manufacturing facility, while demonstrating grid stability and renewable integration services in the region.
     

    From India who was promoted as International Umpire by International Hockey Federation - Durga Thakur

    Among Important Sports News, On 19th April 2016, Durga Thakur of India was promoted as International Outdoor Umpire by the International Hockey Federation.
    He was given this promotion after her good performance at the Hawkes Bay Cup which was held in this month at Hastings (New Zealand).
