    Who has been chosen for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2015 - UNHCR

    Among the importnat International Current Affairs, On 19th November 2015, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was chosen for the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2015.

    It was chosen in recognition of its extensive contributions in helping millions of refugees in their resettlement and rehabilitation.

    Contributions of UNHCR

    • On 14th December 1950, UN General Assembly established it with a directive to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and solve their problems.
    • Currently, Antonio Guterres is the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
    • Since its establishement, it has assisted tens of millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless people, refugees and returnees.
    • It has won two Nobel Peace Prizes for its humanitarian work worldwide.
    • Currently, its is active in the Mediterranean region, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to cope with the European Migration Crisis.

    WHo has won Indiana FIDE Rating Chess Tournament - Srishti Pandey

    Among the importnat National Current Affairs, On 18th November 2015, the second Indiana All India FIDE Rating Chess tournament was won by Maharashtra’s chess player Srishti Pandey.

    Fourteen years old Pandey shared points with Avadh Chaitanya from Madhya Pradesh playing on the top board.

    On 19th November 2015, Former Gujarat Governor Ram Krishna Trivedi passed away after at the age of 94.

    About RK Trivedi

    • He was the first person to introduce the voter ID cards in Indian Elections.
    • From 26th February 1986 to 2nd May 1990, Trivedi served as the Governor of Gujarat.
    • In October 1980, he was appointed as the Central Vigilance Commissioner.

    Who has passed Bill to restrict entry of Syrian, Iraqi refugees - US House of Representatives

    Among the importnat International Current Affairs, On 19th November 2015, The US House of Representatives passed a bill to restrict Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the US.

    The bill which seeks to impose more harsh security provisions on already robust screening of Iraqi and Syrian was opposed by 137 and favoured by 289.

    What the Bill says?

    The bill states that every refugee heading towards the US would require signing of the head of the top US law-enforcement and national security officials stating that the person will not be a threat to security of the nation. The institutions who have the auathority to sign includes the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI.

    Who has sworned-in as Chief Minister of Bihar - Nitish Kumar

    Among the importnat National Current Affairs, On 20th November 2015, Senior JDU leader Nitish Kumar sworned-in as Chief Minister of Bihar.

    The oath of office and secrecy to Nitish Kumar other council of ministers was administered by Governor Ramnath Kovind.

    First time MLA Tejaswi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, were also sworn in.

    University of East London awarded honorary doctorate to - Ashok Amritraj

    Among the importnat International Current Affairs, On 19th November 2015, Tennis champion-turned Hollywood filmmaker Ashok Amritraj was awarded with an honorary doctorate of Arts by the University of East London for promoting talented moviemakers from across the world, including India.

    Which two countries signed deal to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt - Egypt & Russia

    Among the importnat International Current Affairs, On 19th November 2015, Egypt and Russia signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt.

    Highlights of the deal

    • The plant will be built at Dabaa in the North of the country and will be the first in Egypt.
    • It would involve the building of a third-generation plant with 4 reactors.
