    New Interceptor Missile named Prithvi Defence Vehicle successfully test fired by India

    On 27th April 2014, India successfully test-fired an anti-ballistic missile named as Prithvi Defence Vehicle (PDV). It was tested at Wheeler Island in Balasore district of Odisha. This Missile is built and developed by India's DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).

    This came as a significant milestone in the direction of developing a two layered Ballistic Missile Defence system and the mission aims to engage the targets in the exo atmosphere region at an altitude of more than 120 kilometres. Both PDV interceptor and the two stage target equipped with motors have been developed to achieve PDV mission.

    Justice R M Lodha sworn in as 41st Chief Justice of India

    On 27th April 2014, Justice R M Lodha (Rajendra Mal Lodha) was sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India, as oath was administered by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. New Chief Justice of India Justice R M Lodha will be having a tenure of 5 months till 27th September 2014.

     

    He will be succeeding Justice P. Sathasivam, who retired from his duties on 26th April 2014 after serving tenure of nine months.

    South Korea PM Chung Hong Won resigned

    The Sewol ferry sank on a routine trip south from the port of Incheon to the traditional holiday island of Jeji on 16 April 2014, So over the the government's inability and untimely response to the ferry disaster Prime Minister of South Korea Chung Hong won resigned on 27th April 2014. The President of South Korea Park Geun-hye accepted the resignation of Chung Hong, though he will remain in post until the rescue operation was completed.

    In Sewol ferry, more than 476 people were travelling most of them were students and teachers. Around 300 people were missing.

    15th International Indian Film Academy Awards 2014

    The 15th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2014 was held in Tampa Bay, US. It was held from 23rd April to 26th April 2014. This was held for the first time in US and Hollywood star John Travoltas and Kevin Spacey made appearance at the IIFA awards. The IIFA awards are presented by the International Indian Film Academy every year. These were presented to both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in Bollywood. The awards have categories like popular awards, technical awards and special awards.

    World's oldest man Arturo Licata died

    111 years old Arturo Licata, who was World's oldest man passed away in Italy on 27th April 2014. He was given title of oldest Living Man on 28th Feb 2014 by the Guinness World Records at the age of 111 years and 302 days.

    Arturo Licata was born into a family of four brothers and two sisters in Sicily. He had seven children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He joined army in 1921 and served it as a soldier in East Africa during invasion of Ethiopia as ordered by the Italian fascist regime.
