    Tata Coffee Limited got new CEO and MD with appointment of Sanjiv Sarin

    Among the important appointments On 29th December 2014, Mr. Sanjiv Sarin was appointed as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tata Coffee Limited. He will be taking charge from 8th January 2015. Mr. Sanjiv Sarin will succeed Mr. Hameed Huq who is going to retire on 31st March 2015. 

    At the time of appointment Mr Sarin was working as Regional President for South Asia in Tata Global Beverages Ltd which is a holding company of Tata Coffee Ltd.

    Noted educationist Saiyid Hamid passed away

    Noted Educationist Saiyid Hamid passed away on 29th December 2014 at the age of 94 years. He made many efforts for the educational uplift of Indian Muslims. He was appointed as the vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) after his retirement from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1980. 

    He also served as Chancellor of Hamdard University in Delhi. He was honoured with many awards for his work few of them are Sanskriti Award for literature, Urdu Academy award, Hindi Academy award and National fellowship award by Ministry of Culture.

    Indian Cricketer MS Dhoni announced retirement from Test cricket

    On 30th December 2014, Indian Cricketer M S Dhoni announced his retirement from International Test Cricket with immediate effect as he wants to concentrate on ODI and T20 formats. He announced his retirement at the time when Indian team is already playing a test series with Australia. Now Virat Kohli will be the serving as Captain in test matches for Indian Team.

    Department of Disabilities Affairs renamed as Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

    Among the Important National Current Affairs, On 29th December 2014, Department of Disability Affairs (Nishaktata Karya Vibhag) was renamed to Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Viklangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag) by the Union Government. 

    This Department was created under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in June 2012 with an aim to act as nodal agency for matters pertaining to disabilities.

    As per 2001 Census,  Over 21 million (2.1 crore) people in India (12.6 million males and 9.3 million females) are suffering from one or the other kind of disability, which means 2.1 percent of total population.

    Union Cabinet cleared hiking stake in IFCI to 51%

    Among the Important Financial Current Affairs, On 29th December 2014, Union Government approved raising its stake in IFCI Ltd to 51 percent by infusing Rs 60 crore in it.

    It was approved by Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. 

    Current shareholding of Union government in IFCI after inclusion of the preference share capital was only 47.93 percent, so under section 2(45) of the Companies Act, 2013 it was not a Government Company.
