    Missing AirAsia plane QZ8501 debris found in Java Sea

    AirAsia Flight QZ8501 which went missing recently, carrying 162 people on board from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore, its debris and dead bodies were found in Java Sea. This was found 160 km south-west of Pangkalan Bun. 

    Governors of Mizoram, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee

    On 30th December 2014, Governors of Mizoram, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya were appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee. Following are the details : 

    • Aziz Qureshi was transferred from Uttarakhand and was appointed as Governor of Mizoram.
    • Dr Krishan Kant Paul was transferred from Meghalaya and was appointed as Governor of Uttarakhand.
    • Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal, will take additional charge as the Governor of Meghalaya.

    Visit to South Korea by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj

    On 28th December 2014, Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited South Korea to attend the 8th India-Republic of Korea Joint Commission meeting held in Seoul. Minister of Foreign Affairs (FM) of South Korea Yun Byung-se and Sushma Swaraj co-chaired this meeting.

    She also sought support for Make in India programme from Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea Yoon Sang-jick.

    60 million dollar loan deal inked between ADB and Union Government for J&K

    Among the Important banking current affairs, On 30th December 2014, Govt signed loan agreement of 60 million dollar with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a J&K Urban Sector Development Investment Program (JKURSDIP). 

    This loan has 25 year term which includes a grace period of five years. This is aimed to improve urban services like Water Supply and Transport Infrastructure in two key cities of Jammu and Kashmir, namely Jammu and Srinagar.

    Four Nationalised Banks got new MD and CEO

    On 31st December 2014, Appointment of MD and CEO's of four Nationalised Banks was announced by Department of Financial Services which is under Union Ministry of Finance. Following are the details : 

    • R Koteeswaran as MD and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB),
    • Animesh Chauhan as MD and CEO of Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC),
    • Kishore Kumar Sansi as MD and CEO of Vijaya Bank and 
    • P. Srinivas as the MD and CEO of United Bank of India.

    Agreement between RIL and Mitsui OSK Lines inked to supply ethane from North America to India

    Mitsui OSK Lines of Japan and Reliance Industries (RIL) inked an agreement for transportation of liquefied ethane from North America to India. RIL plans to ship 1.5 million tonnes a year of ethane from its US shale joint ventures to its chemical complex in Gujarat through the VLECs.

    IRDA renamed to Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India

    On 30th December 2014, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) was renamed to Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. 

    The amendment was done to the Insurance Regulation and Development Act, 1999 by inserting the words India after Development Authority in Section 105 of the Ordinance amends section 2 (1)(b) of the IRDA Act.
