    India slipped to 71st rank by losing 11 places in Global Competitiveness Index List 2014-2015

    On 3rd September 2014, India slipped to 71st position in the global competitiveness list of Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF). India was ranked at 71st position among 144 countries. This is Global Competitiveness Index List 2014-2015. Earlier in Global Competitiveness Index List 2013-2014 India was on 60th position.

    Among the important factors from which this index is evaluated are Basic Requirements, Efficiency Enhancers and Innovation and Sophistication Factors. 

    Justice H.L. Dattu will be the 42nd Cheif Justice of India

    On 3rd September 2014, with the clearance of President Pranab Mukherjee, Justice H.L. Dattu is set to become 42nd Chief Justice of India. Justice H.L. Dattu is the senior most judge in the Supreme Court. 

    He will be replacing CJI R.M. Lodha who is getting retire on 27th September 2014. 

    Justice H.L. Dattu joined as a judge in Supreme Court in 2008.

    Kerala got new Governor with appointment of Former CJI P Sathasivam

    On 3rd September 2014, Former Chief Justice of India, Palaniswamy Sathasivam was appointed was appointed as the new Governor of Kerala. As we know that former Governor of Kerala, Sheila Dikshit had resigned earlier.

    Palaniswamy Sathasivam was 40th CJI and his tenure as a CJI was from July 2013 to April 2014.

    President of India released eight stamps of musical legends of India

    On 3rd September 2014, President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee released set of eight Postage Stamps in honour of Indian Musicians. These were released at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

    Following are the musical legends who get this honour :

    • Pandit Ravi Shankar,  
    • Pandit Bhimsen Joshi,
    • D.K. Pattammal,
    • Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur,
    • Gangubai Hangal,
    • Pandit Kumar Gandharva,
    • Ustad Vilayat Khan and
    • Ustad Ali Akbar Khan

    Visa was granted to Writer of Bangladesh Taslima Nasreen till August 2015 to stay in India

    Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has been granted with one year visa extension by the Centre so she is allowed to stay in India till August 2015. Before 2 months she was given a  temporary visa for two months. 

    Taslima Nasreen is living in Exile since 1994. She is a citizen of Sweden now.
