    Who is appointed as Accountant General of Tamil Nadu - R Thiruppathi Venkatasamy

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 6th July 2016 R Thiruppathi Venkatasamy has been appointed as the Accountant General of Economic and Revenue Sector Audit of Tamil Nadu. By the Union Government his appointment was approved.

    R Thiruppathi Venkatasamy is a 2000 batch officer of Indian Audit and Accounts Service.

    Know About R Thirupapathi Venkatasamy – 

    • Earlier, Venkatasamy has worked in various filed offices of Indian Audit and Accounts Department in different geographical locations; worked in Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

    • He also has a Master of Public Affairs degree from USA and Master of Science in Agriculture degree from India and a certificate in Auditing IT controls from Norway.

    Union Cabinet approves Interest Subvention Scheme for – Farmers

    On 5th July 2016, The Union Cabinet gave the green signal to the Interest Subvention Scheme for farmers for the year 2016-17.

    The Government has also assigned a sum of 18276 crore rupees for the purpose. 

    The main aim of this scheme is to help farmers getting short term crop loan payable within one year up to 3 lakhs rupees at only 4% per annum.

    Aditya Birla Fashion acquires global clothing brand - Forever 21

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 5th July 2016 Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL) acquired global clothing brand Forever 21 in the Indian market for 26 million US dollars.

    For your information: Forever 21 has a network of more than 700 stores worldwide. Its India operations reported a turnover of about 262 crore rupees in 2015-16.

    Know About Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail - 

    • In the beginning, the company was named as Pantaloons Fashion and Retail Ltd (PFRL).

    • After some time, it was formed as the consolidation of the branded apparel businesses of Aditya Birla Group - Aditya Birla Nuvo, Madura Fashion division, Pantaloons Fashion and Retail Ltd and Madura Garments Lifestyle Retail Company Ltd.

    SC appointed Green Panel recommends high pollution cess of 20-22% on - Diesel Vehicles

    On 5th July 2016, the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) recommended a green cess of 20-22% on diesel vehicles.

    EPCA is known to be a Supreme court-appointed Green Panel for Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).

    Here are few recommendations – 

    • Up to 1200 cc, up to 2000 cc and 2000 cc and above, these are the three categories in which the vehicles need to be divided.

    • Whereas, an Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) of 10 percent of the vehicle's cost be imposed on diesel cars with engines up to 1200cc.

    Union Cabinet approves National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

    On 5th July 2016, the Union Cabinet finally approved the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to train 50 lakh apprentices by 2019-20. 

    This Scheme is involving an outlay of 10000 crore rupees which will catalyze the entire apprenticeship ecosystem in the country.

    It will also offer a winning situation for all stakeholders and is expected to become one of the most powerful skill-delivery vehicles in the country.

    The Scheme is all set to be implemented by Director General of Training (DGT) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
