Which Koodiyattom artiste has passed away - Margi Sathi
On 1st December 2015, Margi Sathi, one of the finest exponents of Koodiyattom and Nangiarkoothu, passed away at the age of 50.
She was considered as the artist of the exotic dance form of Nangiarkoothu, an offshoot of Koodiyattam which is an ancient temple art form.
About Margi Sathi
- She was appointed at the Kerala Kalamandalam as a faculty.
- She appeared as the woman artist, choreographer and teacher of the classical Koodiyattam theatre that is recognised by the UNESCO.
- Sreeramacharitham, Sitayanam and Kannagichairtham, based on a Tamil epic are the plays she had conceptualised.
- She had received Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy award in 2002, Kaladarpana award in 2008 and Natyarathna Puraskaram in 2008.
Name the Sarangi maestro who has passed away - Ustad Sabri Khan
On 30th November 2015, Renowned sarangi player Ustad Sabri Khan passed away at the age of 88. Khan belonged to the Sainia Gharana, which traces the tradition of its music back to Tansen.
He was born on 21st May 1927 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. His grandfather Ustad Haji Mohammed Khan initiated him into Sarangi.
He has received number of awards including the National Sangeet Natak Academy Award, UP Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Sahitya Kala Parishad Award. In 1992 he was awarded with the prestigious Padma Shree Award and Padma Bhushan Award in 2006.
Who will be honoured with ITC Sangeet Samman - Renowned violinist L Subramaniam
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 1st December 2015, The ITC Sangeet Research Academy Executive Director Rabi Srinibasan announced that Renowned violinist Lakshminarayana Subramaniam will be honoured with the Sangeet Samman at the ITC Sangeet Sammelan 2015.
He has also composed the film scores for the films like Mississippi Masala and Salaam Bombay.
In 2012 he was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Limca Book of Records, President's Award for Best Violinist, All India Radio in 1963 and Padma Bhushan in 2001.
E-India Award presented to - Delhi Development Authority
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 1st December 2015, The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was awarded with the E-India Award. The award was presented for adopting technology to serve the public better and using resources efficiently through mobile applications.
VS Tomar, Director DDA during the e-INDIA SUMMIT 2015 in Mumbai received the award.
The award was given to DDA for the following :
- It was awarded under the category of Digital India IT initiatives for remarkable IT initiatives in the field of land protection and engineering projects.
- Measurement Books for e-filing of measurement of engineering projects for exact estimation of parameters and project requirements.
- It was awarded for the vacant land photo uploading system app.
Who has approved Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2015 - President
On 1st December 2015, President Pranab Mukherjee gave approval to Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2015 of Maharashtra. Among other things, the bill amends Section 66(1)(c) of the Factories Act, 1948 that restricts women from working at a factory between 7 PM and 6 AM.
Proposed changes to the Factories Act, 1948 include
- After working for 90 days in a year workers to be eligible for paid leave.
- Prior permission should be taken from the chief factory inspector to file a case.
- Workers need not to take the management's permission for overtime.
- It will prevent inspectors from filing cases on petty matters against factories and consequently, will help in curbing corruption and harassment from factory inspectors.
Who has assumed Presidency of the Royal Society - Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 1st December 2015, Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan assumed Presidency of the Royal Society in London.
He became the 61st president of the society.

- In 2009 he received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Ada Yonath and Tom Steitz.
- In 2012, he was awarded a knighthood.
- In 2003, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society and member of the US National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina.
Labour Laws (Gujarat Amendment) Bill 2015 received Presidential approval
On 20th September 2015, President Pranab Mukherjee gave his approval to the Labour Laws (Gujarat Amendment) Bill 2015.
The bill was passed with a motive to relax labour laws and give a momentum to industrialisation of the state.
Highlights of the Act
- The law has modified the definition of contractor to include outsourcing agencies, which in some cases, is the government itself.
- It pursue to change certain basic definitions in the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 and clauses in the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, which allow more policing of the state over industries.
- Ban of strikes in public utility services for up to one year from previous six months.
- The time limit for workers is reduced to raise exceptions to the decisions of the industries from three year to one year.
Aricent tied-up with - Nasscom Foundation
On 1st December 2015, Aricent, a US-based product engineering firm, collaborated with Nasscom Foundation to launch Aricent Employability Programme. It is an initiative to create employability opportunities for 2500 engineering graduates.
Highlights of the Aricent Employability Programme
- The programme is for the under graduate students across Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
- Students with skills in specialized areas in software development will be selected on-campus and enable them to find employment across the IT-BPM industry.
- Students will be trained in problem solving, time management, customer orientation, business etiquettes, oral and written communication skills.
Who has won gold medal in World Bodybuilding and Physique Championships - India’s Thakur Anoop Singh
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 28th November 2015, India’s Thakur Anoop Singh won gold medal in the 7th WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Championships in the fitness physique category.
India has won a total of 11 medals in the championships. Apart from this, Arambam Boby (Manipur) also won gold in the championship.
Thingbaijam Sarita bagged a bronze medal in the event.
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery Observed on - 2nd December
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 2nd December 2015, The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery was observed globally to focus on the rejection of forms of modern-day slavery like human trafficking and child labour.
Currently, there is estimated 21 million forced labour victims worldwide, creating 150 billion US dollars in illegal profits in the private economy each year according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The day marks the date of adoption of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others by UN General Assembly on 2 December 1929.
