Rajasthan Cricket Association Suspended by BCCI
On 6th May 2014, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indefinitely suspended Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). Though an ad-hoc body was appointed to run the cricket affairs. This suspension was done by BCCI after few hours when former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was elected as President of RCA.
Rajasthan Cricket Association elections were held on 19th December 2013. Following the order of the Supreme Court, the results of the votes were opened under the Court observation on 6th May 2014 from a sealed envelope. Lalit Modi won the election of President of RCA by defeating Rampal Sharma.
How RCA was suspended ?
Indefinite suspension of RCA was taken as per the BCCI Memorandum and Rules & Regulations ( BCCI MRR) clause number 32, sub-clause 7. Under these clauses, the President of BCCI reserves the right to suspend an association that doesn't confirm the rules and regulations of the BCCI.
World Snooker Championship 2014 won by Mark Selby
England's Snooker Player Mark Selby won World Snooker Championship 2014 held in Sheffield, England. He won this championship on 6th May 2014. Mark Selby defeated Ronnie O Sullivan with 18-14. By this win he earned his first World Title and also became World No. 1 Rank holder in Snooker.
Mark Selby who is 30 years old, won cash prize of 300000 pounds.
Book entitled "A Stamp Is Born" authored by C. R. Pakrashi released
On 6th May 2014, The Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled “A Stamp is Born” authored by Mr. C. R. Pakrashi. Mr. C. R. Pakrashi is a renowned stamp designer.
In this book on stamp making, the author, who has designed 56 commemorative stamps, has described his first-hand experiences with all stages of production of the stamp, right from conception to final execution and printing. He has focussed on designing which plays the most vital and important role in the entire process. The book gives a graphic account of history and evolution of postage stamps.
Thailand prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra ordered to step down
Among the International Current Affairs, On 7th May 2014, Constitutional Court of Thailand ruled that the Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawartra must step down. This decision was taken as court found her guilty of abusing her power.
In its direction, the Court ruled the Yingluck acted illegally and abused her power by transferring her National Security Chief, a civil servant to another post about three years ago in 2011. The court termed that the transfer was carried out to benefit her politically powerful family and that's why it violated the Constitution. This accusation was denied by her.
The court also ruled that the nine current cabinet ministers who were in office at the time of the transfer must also step down – among them the labour, finance and foreign ministers.
Important to note :
There is political deadlock in the country since November 2013 as anti-government protesters have been demanding oust of Yingluck.
In ICC One Day International rankings, Virat Kohli ranked no 1
Indian Cricket Player Virat Kohli has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the latest ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen. ICC Player Rankings were released on 4th May 2014 in Dubai after conclusion of the Asia Cup.
Rank 2 is given to South African batsman AB de Villiers who is behind to Kohli by two ratings points.
