    12-day Godavari Maha Pushkaram was began in - Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

    On 14th July 2015, Godavari Maha Pushkaram began on the banks of River Godavari in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It is a 12 days long event so it will be going on till 25th July 2015. Unique things about this is that it happens once in 144 years.

    Godavari Pushkaram, a 12-day festival of worshipping the river is held once in 12 years. Every 12th year Jupiter’s entry into the constellation Leo marks the Pushkaram for Godavari. The celebrations include reverence of ancestors, spiritual discourses, devotional music and cultural programmes.

    Which film bagged best screenplay award at Madrid film festival - Buddha in a Traffic Jam

    Film Buddha in a Traffic Jam won the Best Original Screenplay award in the Foreign Language Category at the Madrid International Film Festival, Spain. Madrid International Film Festival held from 2nd July 2015 to 11th July 2015.

    Buddha in a Traffic Jam has been directed by Vivek Agnihotri and stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Arunoday Singh, Vivek Vaswani, Aanchal Dwivedi and Mahi Gill.

    This is an unreleased Bollywood film which is produced by Friday Night Productions and co-produced by Phoenix Multidimensions and Vivek Agnihotri Creates. 

    Who was appointed as Vice-Chief of Indian Army - Lt General Man Mohan Singh Rai

    Among Important National Current Affairs, On 13th July 2015, Lieutenant General Man Mohan Singh Rai was appointed as new Vice-Chief of the Indian Army. He will be succeeding Lt Gen Philip Campose, who is going to retire from services on 31 July 2015.

    At the time of appointment Lieutenant General Man Mohan Singh Rai is giving his services as Eastern Army Commander. Lieutenant General Man Mohan Singh Rai was commissioned from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, on 15 December 1976.

    How many Indians were in 21 Young Leaders Class of 2015 list - 4 Indians

    Four Indians-Mishi Choudhary, Manish Dahiya, Sanjay Vijayakumar and Aarti Wig- were figured in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Class of 2015 list that was released on 8 July 2015 in New York, the USA. The selected leaders will be part of the Asia 21 Network where they will find mentors, potential collaborators, who are devoted to find solutions to most vexing socio-economic problems in the Asia-Pacific region.

    Four Indians who make to this list were :

    • Mishi Choudhary - She is a technology lawyer and an online civil liberties activist, is the founding executive director of SFLC.in, a pro-bono legal services organization based in New Delhi.
    • Manish Dahiya - He is the executive director and Global Head of Energy Complex at Noble Group Limited.
    • Sanjay Vijayakumar - He is the CEO of MobME Wireless Solutions, one of India’s most exciting and innovative mobile value-added service companies.
    • Aarti Wig - She is co-founder of the Indian arm of the Yunus Social Business (YSB), which was founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus to create selfless businesses that tackle social problems.

    Pashupatinath Roy passed away, he was former - BSFI president

    On 13th July 2015, Former BSFI President Pashupatinath Roy passed away. He was 76 years old. He served BSFI in various capacities. Apart from this he was also the president of West Bengal Badminton Association for more than five decades.

    Name of the Ranji player who was suspended by BCCI on the grounds of corruption - Hiken Shah

    On 13th July 2015, Ranji cricketer of Mumbai named Hiken Shah was suspended with immediate effect by BCCI after he was found guilty of breaching BCCI's Anti-Corruption Code for participants.

    Hiken Shah was accused for making a corrupt approach to a fellow player from first-class cricket, who is also a member of one of the IPL teams. The approached player immediately informed the incident to his franchise team. 

    The franchise team followed the process of informing the incident to the Anti Corruption Unit of the BCCI. Based on the information, BCCI President, Jagmohan Dalmiya, instructed ACU to conduct an immediate enquiry into the matter. 

    PM Narendra Modi concluded his tour to - Russia and five Central Asian nations

    On 13th July 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India after concluding his six-nation tour of Russia and five Central Asian countries. These five Central Asian countries are : Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

    Name of Presidents of these Countries are : 

    • President of Kazakhstan - Nursultan Nazarbayev,
    • President of the Kyrgyz Republic - Almazbek Atambaev,
    • President of Uzbekistan - Islam Karimov,
    • President of Tajikistan - Emomali Rahmon and
    • President of Turkmenistan - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

    PM Modi visited Russia to attend 7th BRICS summit and 2015 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). 

    Name of two teams which were suspended for two years by Justice Lodha panel - Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals

    Justice RM Lodha-headed panel on IPL Betting Scandal 2013 on 14 July 2015 suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for two years. Suspension of two times IPL champion CSK and inaugural winner RR comes with immediate effect. 

    Apart from these two teams, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra were also suspended from all cricket matches for life as they were found guilty of illegal betting.

    Lodha committee was headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) RM Lodha. This committee was appointed by a Supreme Court Bench on 22nd January 2015. 

    Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela begun in - Maharsahtra

    On 14th July 2015, Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela started. This festival will end on 11th August 2015. The ceremony at Trimbakeshwar was presided over by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and state Women and Child Welfare minister Pankaja Munde as chief guests, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over Nashik ceremony.

    Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river which is held every third year. It is organised at one of the four places by rotation. These four places are Haridwar, Allahabad (Prayaga), Nashik and Ujjain. So it repeats on12th year at one place.

    Name of the rivers at these four places : 

    • Haridwar - Ganga,
    • Allahabad - Confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati,
    • Nashik - Godawari and

    India inked MoU for cooperation in field of Election Management with - Georgia

    On 13th July 2015, MoU was inked between India and Georgia for cooperation in the field of election management and administration which was signed by Chief Election Commissioner of India Nasim Zaidi and Tamar Zhvania, Chairperson, Central Election Commission, Georgia.

    As per this MoU Promotion of exchanges of knowledge and experience in electoral processes will happen. It will also focus on Production and distribution of materials pertaining to electoral systems, voting technology, voters education and awareness.

    Manayangath Subramanian Viswanathan passed away, he was a noted - Tamil music Composer

    On 14th July 2015, Noted Tamil music composer Manayangath Subramanian Viswanathan passed away. He was 87 years old. 

    He was a very diverse composer as far as Tamil film music world was concerned. Credit of composing more than 1700 films in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada goes to him. He was very popular for his collaboration with music composer T K Ramamurthy.
