    Framework for the India-US Defence Relationship has been signed between - India and the US signed

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 3rd June 2015, India and the United States (US) signed the 2015 Framework for the India-US Defence Relationship. The framework was signed by the Ashton Carter, US Secretary of Defence and India’s Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar.

    Highlights of the India-US Defence Framework

    • It is developed on previous framework and guide the bilateral defence and strategic partnership for the next 10 years.
    • It provides direction for high level strategic discussions, continued exchanges between armed forces of both countries, and strengthening of defence capabilities.
    • It also identifies the transformative nature of the Trade Initiative (DTTI) and Defence Technology.

    Besides this, both India and the United States also finalized two project agreements for joint development of Mobile Electric Hybrid Power Sources and the Next Generation Protective Ensembles.

    Which metro got its first driver-less train - Delhi Metro

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 4th June 2015, first driver-less train from Korea-based manufacturer was received by Delhi Metro. The train is furnished with several advanced features and will be operational on sections of Phase-III by December 2016.

    Features of these trains

    • The new train has encountered significant technological as well as eco-friendly upgrades.
    • Because of enanced design features such as regeneration of energy during braking, energy efficient sub systems like LED lighting and air conditioning systems, the train will be more energy efficient.
    • The train is intended for a operational speed of 85 kmph and maximum speed of 95 kmph.

    Which day is observed on 5th June - World Environment Day

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 5th June 2015, On the theme "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care", World Environment Day (WED) was observed worldwide.

    Italy is the host country for the WED 2015 and the celebrations will be organized by Expo Milano 2015 which will run from 1st May to 31st October 2015 and will see the participation of more than 140 countries.

    United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) initiated this day to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and earth.

    Who has been conferred with South Africa Cricketer of the Year Award for 2015 - AB De Villiers

    Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 3rd June 2015, AB De Villiers was conferred with the South Africa (SA) Cricketer of the Year Award for 2015.

    He has joined Makhaya Ntini who received the award in successive years- 2005 and 2006 by receiving the award for two consecutive years 2014 & 2015.

    400 million US dollars loan agreement has been signed by Union Government with - World Bank for TNSUDP

    On 4th June 2015, The Union Government signed Loan and Project Agreements with the World Bank for assistance of 400 million US dollars for Tamil Nadu Sustainable Urban Development Project (TNSUDP).

    The objective of the project is to improve urban services in participating Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in a financially sustainable manner. The total project size is 600 million US dollars

    Three main components of the Project

    • Investment in Urban Services: The project will support improvement in range of urban services including storm water drainage, water, urban transportation, sewerage, sewerage management and municipal solid waste.
    • The project will provide results-based grants to eligible ULBs to implement new urban-management models that strengthen governance and financial sustainability.
    • The project will support strengthening the capacity of ULBs and urban sector officials.

    Who is awarded Miniratna (Category-1) status by Department of Public Enterprises - IREDA

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 2nd June 2015, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) was awarded the Miniratna (Cateogry -1) status by the Department of Public Enterprises under the Union Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises.

    Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) proposed for conferring Miniratna status for IREDA.

    This allows IREDA to make capital expenditure on purchase of equipment, new projects, modernization etc. without any approval from Government up to 500 crores rupees, or equal to their net worth, whichever is lower.
