    Who is appointed as the Managing Director of Volvo India - Tom von Bonsdorff

    Among the important appointments, On 1st June 2015, Tom von Bonsdorff was appointed as the Managing Director of Volvo Auto India. He replaced Tomas Ernberg as he is moving back to Sweden in a new role.

    For the 17 long years, Bonsdorff has been working with Volvo Cars in various operational and managerial positions. Earlier, Bonsdorff has worked in the Finland, Sweden, US, while his current position is Market Area Director of Asia.

    Headquartered in Gothenburg, the Volvo Group is a Swedish multinational manufacturing company. Its central activity is the production, distribution and sale of buses, trucks and construction equipment.

    61st edition of list of top 500 companies was released by - Fortune

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 4th June 2015, 61st edition of list of top 500 companies was released by Fortune. These 500 companies adjudged for 17 trillion US dollar in market value, employing 26.8 million people worldwide, 12.5 trillion US dollar in revenues and 945 billion US dollar in profits.

    Retail behemoth Walmart with revenue of 485.6 billion US dollar topped the list. Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Berkshire Hathaway and Apple following the list at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively. As compared to the 2014 list, the top five of 2015 list remains unchanged.

    With a profit of 39.5 billion US dollars, Apple was the most profitable company followed by Exxon Mobil with a profit value of 32.5 billion US dollars.

    Microsoft, Google, IBM, Intel and Oracle in terms of profit are placed in the top 20; however in terms of revenue, they are placed outside the top 20. An increment of 2.6% has been shown by the revenue of the Fortune 500 companies in 2015 as compare to 2014 whereas a decrement of 12.6% has been noticed in total profits.

    Name the abhiyan launched by Union Ministry of Water Resources - Jal Kranti Abhiyan from Jaipur

    Among the important National Current AffairsOn 5th June 2015, Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejunivetion Uma Bharti from Jaipur, Rajasthan launched the nationwide Jal Kranti Abhiyan.

    The aim is to amalgamate water conservation and management in the country through a holistic and integrated approach involving all stakeholders, making it a mass movement.

    Objective of the campaign

    • To nourish grass root involvement of all stake holders including Panchyati raj institutions and local bodies in the water security and development schemes like participatory Irrigation Management (PIM).
    • To uplift the acquisition of traditional knowledge in water resource conservation and its management
    • To utilize sector-level expertise from different levels in citizen, government, NGOs etc.
    • Increasing income security through water security in rural areas

    Who is appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys Limited - R Seshasayee

    Among the important appointments, On 5th June 2015, R Seshasayee was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys Limited. He has replaced KV Kamath, who resigned to head the proposed BRICS New Development Bank in China. He will head the Infosys board for 3 years till 2018 as he will turn 70 and retire as per company norms.

    In January 2011, Seshasayee joined Infosys board. He is the Chairperson of its audit committee and has been an independent director on the board. Currently, Seshasayee also serves as Chairman of IndusInd Bank and Non-Executive Vice-Chairman of Ashok Leyland.

    Where did the IMA’s first Jan Aushadhi medical store launched - Delhi

    Among the important National Current AffairsOn 5th June 2015, Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) first-ever Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug (JAGD) Store was inaugurated in New Delhi. Over 118 commonly used drugs at a 10 to 20% lesser price than market value will be available at the store.

    Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Hansraj Gangaram Ahir launched the store.

    The medicines offered at the IMA’s, the country’s largest non-government organisation of doctors, JAGD store have been approved and quality controlled by the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India (BPPI) under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals.
