    Uttar Pradesh orders ban on Plastic from - 15th July

     On 6th July 2018, CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath issued order to ban use of plastic in the state from 15th July 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to end the use of single use plastic products by 2022.

    If we talk about a year, then world uses 500 billion plastic bags in a year. Out of which 8 million tonnes end up in the oceans. 50 percent of plastic we use is single use or disposable plastic. Out of total waste of world 10 percent is of plastic.

    Law Commission recommends legalising sports betting in - India

    In its 276th report, Law Commission of India has recommended legalisation of regulated betting and gambling in sports. Report also found that complete ban is also not getting desired results, since it is not possible to prevent these activities completely so regulating them would be a fasible option.

    Reports made two group of people on the basis of their income. People with high income shall be permitted into Gambling for higher stakes but people with lower income groups will be able to do small gambling.

    Commission also suggested there should be a limit on number of transactions for any individual for a specific period.

    S Sivakumar ( One member of Commission ), filed a separate opinion of dissent stating that betting can have bad impact on society. He further said that the socio-economic and cultural circumstances of the country are not pragmatic to accept legalised gambling activities, as it is still treated as a social stigma.

    Who has been appointed as NGT Chairperson - Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel

    On 6th July 2018, Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was appointed as new Chairperson of the NGT ( National Green Tribunal ). He will be serving at this position for the term of five years. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was the first person from Haryana to become a Supreme Court Judge in 2014.

    Under National Green Tribunal Act 2010, National Green Tribunal was established on October 18, 2010. NGT was set up with an aim for enforcement of any legal right relating to the environment.
